Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Strange, since Carey himself keeps talking as if he has no idea when he'll be ready.
What I'm gleaning recently is that Price will be ready to play but that has to be the message. He'll likely play 2-4 games for show then pack it in.

That's most likely imo.

Now could he be catfishing? Maybe but that doesn't seem his style. If he gets moved it'll be after he plays a bit anyway, nobody is taking that contract (even at half) without proof of life.

Yeah, no cap concerns to the Habs once the season starts and they can use LTIR, but it is still amazing that they are that close to the cap given the state of the roster and the fact that they purged Weber and Petry. They have 9 forwards at $3.4 million AAV or more. That's pretty nuts.
Bergevin didn't care. He knew his time was coming to an end. Even when offered an extension he knew he fucked up the whole cap so he never signed it. Why stay somewhere that you will get roasted on the daily when sunny southern Cali was calling?

What I like about HuGo (Hughes/Gorton) is they've been transparent about the cap issues and what will need to be done without making excuses. They identified the job and said let's get to work. Very refreshing.

Habs may finally have competent leadership. Unfortunately Molson is still there.

Luckily, by the end of next year, Habs will say goodbye to Weber contract replacement Dadonov (5M), Drouin (5.4M) Byron (3.4M)....13.8M in total.

Yeah, that will help. Would only have the 20 million tied up in Gallagher, Anderson, Hoffman, and Armia left to deal with after that.

Definitely not the next team to employ him as GM. Creating tire fire situations at your current NHL GM job will not stop you from getting paid even more money to GM the next team. Bergy will always be the guy who grabbed the puck out of the air and threw it into his own net.

They won't retain salary. It's why Petry isn't in Dallas.

Petry is a right shot defender. Hoffman a 3rd line winger/PP specialist.

You're either retaining to move him, or taking another significant salary back (like you did for Petry)

Petry was a hockey move. Whether a good one or not remains to be seen with Matheson.

Hoffman will be a dump but they'll be patient with it. There's no rush to win now and plenty of mistakes get made when GMs panic.

Sure, but it's not a "Hoffman" that GM's of decent teams are often looking for. He's a mediocre (and fairly one dimensional) middle 6 winger who is a few year removed from being the PP weapon that his previous value was based on. He's a guy that consistently struggled to find an organization that valued him (partially because he's a bit of a dick). If he was a pure rental, then sure I could see an opposing GM make a "mistake" on him. Tying up 4.5 million in cap space next season for him? Nah.

The Habs GM (I refuse to learn his name) said himself that he had to take back salary for Petry. Either that or they needed to retain a fuckton. It was a good move, but it was also their only option.

I've seen many many moves made where people swore impossible. This is the NHL and I'll never underestimate the stupidity of team management in the league.
