For Borje - The Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 Stanley Cup Champions Thread

Indeed...Dubas and Shanny were rarely seen sitting together...different from previous years

Most logical explanation is he is either canning Dubas or taking a step back (up?) from hockey ops and promoting Dubas president.

You sure that wasn't Pridham? I got fooled thinking he was Shanny too.
I didn't freeze frame to confirm, but I thought it was for sure him when I saw it and didn't pay much more attention than that, other than to make a mental note that he's still around.

The Athletic reported that Dubas/Shanahan spent a lot less game time together this year…. Maybe nothing, maybe a schism

I know some want Mo named captain if JT stepped aside but if that was a caveat in Matthews new deal then you make it happen.

I still believe this debut was the hockey gods' nod to Leafs Nation: you will win a cup with Austin Matthews.

Sign him for $13-$14 mil and shake up the rest of the team.

I think the hockey gods sent us a different message in that game. He scored four goals in regulation, but the team still managed to lose that game in OT with Matthews on the ice.

A pretty perfect little snapshot of what the Matthews era has ended up becoming—individual excellence during regular play that’s unparalleled in Leaf history, combined with failure and loss when it matters the most.
