New Canadian Politics Thread

Mindz trading down from #2 overall all the way back into the 2nd round….WHAT DOES HE KNOW???!!!

TL DR these rankings are not actionable

Canada #2
Mexico #38???

We must use different analytics.

My research right here says that +28 in January is better than -28 even when you adjust for QoC (QualCorruption), and Expected abductions per 60

Yes, I'm saying +/- is the king

It’s actually in there: “pleasant climate” under the “adventure” heading. Canada gets 19.1 points while Mexico gets 80.6. Mexico also scores 49.9 for “sexy”, while Canada gets only 3. No doubt.

It’s the boring stuff like life expectancy, wealth, jobs, and safety where Canada makes up for it.

Now we know Mindz’s weak spots are sex and sun

Will trade years off his life for those two

It's funny, I've considered a bunch of those things as part of my decision making process and I'm not going to argue data with anecdote, but I can only give my opinion on a few of those things as a "fwiw"

Life Expectancy: It's a weird stat that doesn't say what we think it says tbh. Life expentency for a man in Mexico is about 74 yrs old, in Canada that's at 80.6. It's more or a metric on childhood mortality and the habits of young people than anything else. Mexico has like 4x the risk of infant mortality than Canada has (good quality socialized healthcare ftw) and if you're a young man who has decided to take up crime as a vocation in Mexico, you're unlikely to see 35. Once you correct for that and some wealth (affordability of high quality health care, which is relatively cheap in Mexico but isn't socialized), life expectancy normalizes a bunch and is more or less equal. As a 40+ year old man who isn't in the cocaine trade (yet?) and can afford top tier health care there, I'm not worried about this for the most part.

Wealth/Jobs/All things economic: Huge benefit in bringing Canadian earned wealth down there, 2-3x the purchasing power you get here. Even in the most expensive tourist spots in the country you're looking at real estate that is half the price of similar real estate in GTA and region commuter communities. I get that I'm in a bit of a niche position though at my age. Not an extreme outlier, but still.

Safety: Well yeah, here's the one. If you're making the wrong life decision for you, you're going to realize it when you start reading the "abduction" clauses in the life insurance policy documents. A very real issue that precipitates looking differently at some shit we take for granted in our little frozen haven. But, I grew up in one of our worst areas from that standpoint so I've always looked at personal safety a bit different than most Canadians and probably have different habits than most of y'all when I'm in public. I have a few additional mexico rules and habits that I don't break and it doesn't bother me much. The fuck do I want to drive through country highways at night time for anyway?

Yeah, there is not necessarily that much overlap between best on that list and best for a fairly mobile white person of some means.

Plenty of places I could move to where I could live like a king, speak at least one of the local languages, and spend most of the day on an excellent beach. Wouldn’t want to have been born in any of them though.

I mean if your wealthy enough, the right race, and in the right place most countries can be great. Sometimes even more so poor places.
Yeah, at times it can hit on you mentally, you do wonder if you're causing an area to lose its character, or you wonder how the locals at all can manage. I'm in Vietnam now and there's so many like coffee shops where you have like 4-5 people working in them but I have barely ever seen anyone go in. Like my 3 dollar coffee can't pay for the salary for all of them, plus rent and stuff for the shop, right?

If you're settling down and raising a family, and are of appropriate means to live there, the ranking above makes sense. Sure, would love to live in Switzerland and enjoy all that they have. But for one year that it would cost to move to Switzerland and live in an ok apartment, you can probably live for 5 years in a beautiful villa in Mexico.

It's like we're trying to hit the pause button on the early 00's before anyone gave a fuck about climate, our housing became ridiculously expensive, technology became the core driver of modern economies, etc, etc.

We're out of ideas on how to solve our problems because we stopped looking for them.
