After listening to “hundreds” of songs, a team from marketing, front office, game ops and the players decided on not just switching the song, but how it could influence game-night ambience.

“We’re trying to change up the experience in games,” Hosford said. “So that when you come to say an Original Six night, it feels different.”

Hosford said one Leaf took charge of the project — she wouldn’t say who — to get consensus in the dressing room. Auston Matthews and, more recently, newcomer Ryan Reaves have asked politely in public for a new song.
