I was trying to explain this recently to my folks, who are utterly convinced that laws and the constitution will constrain Trump from doing anything too bad or dictatorial.

At the end of the day, what gives those things power is a critical mass of society demanding they be upheld, and that there are people & institutions with the will and power to enforce them. Absent that, they’re just empty words on paper.

The constitution requires an act of congress to do a bunch of things that Trump has done by command the last few weeks.

As for laws....how many privacy laws has Elon broken at trumps supervision this week alone?

Laws and the constitution are already cooked and we're not even at the 3 week mark.
 
Turns out it would have been best if trump won 4 years ago and we’d be done with him now. Those 4 years built up an anger in him and the people he’s putting in place now are part of an agenda, no 2 ways about it. There’s going to be a large scale fuckery for him to stay in office in 4 years.
