A little less upward distribution of wealth could have solved all the woes of the lower classes.

That's what gets me about all of this. All the Americans needed to do is redistribute a teeny bit of the massive fucknado of wealth generated by globalization and free trade to things like education, healthcare, transit, etc and America would look like living in the fucking Jetson's right now.
