OT: American Politics

The problem Donald has now is he cannot work with the free world to punish countries with sanctions anymore. If he imposed a sanction on Russia or Iran - will Europe, Mexico, Canada etc follow? I am doubting it, unless it helps their own causes. Not for Trump’s ego. Or he will have to negotiate to give a lot up to get support from countries that used to do it all for free.

He has given up a lot of world power in only a few months.

he will sanction countries who don't join him in sanctions.

what's amazing is that i think somehow these idiots legitimately convinced themselves that Putin wanted peace and was just trying to take care of some persecuted russians in ukraine.

He’s doing that already on April 2 (again), for no reason. But everyone is starting to position themselves so they don’t need to rely on the US for much.

I mean, he can start bombing Europe and see what happens? He’s taking a lot of tools out of his tool box if he needs to threaten “allies” into sanctioning countries he wants to sanction with sanctions. Then he needs all the other countries to go along now with these additional sanctions. And so on and so forth

So, so much of America's power and wealth comes from soft power.

Who is going to be cool with letting Trump's bombers take off from the US airbases in their territory to attack Iran? The US has airbases on Iran's forehead. Iraq, Qatar, UAE, Oman purely because of soft power. But do they trust that the US presence will remain forever given what else has happened over the last few months? Iran won't forget. If no one feels comfortable letting the US take off of from their territory, does the Navy have to put a carrier strike group at risk in the Persian Gulf to hit Iran? They're powerful, and the Aegis system can probably stop any missile attacks thrown at a carrier, but Iran would be smart to throw the kitchen fucking sink at a carrier, the visuals of one of those things sinking to the ocean floor would change world geopolitical power dynamics forever.

Also doesn’t understand how the dominance of the American corporation is the tide that rises the ships at home.

and they're fucking cooked internationally.

the 'brand' of America is fucking dead. Foreign governments will re wire public contracts elsewhere. We've talked about the defence procurement aspects of this, but it's a much wider world than that really, and this is actually a massive opportunity for Canada, the UK, Germany, etc to snatch a shit ton of financial services, development, tech contract that previously all went to US firms. 10's-100's of billions of dollars that flowed towards the US that no longer will. Even regions like the Middle East who will continue their relationship with the US will have more options to choose from as non American firms start to fill this void.

Sweet, it only took 10 years for the smart ones to start getting what should have been obvious the entire time.

I think a core problem is that most highly educated, highly intelligent people don't grow up around enough criminals and scumbags. If you come from a less "economically privileged" background, you grow up knowing a dozen Trumps, they just didn't inherit enough money to be dangerous to more than a few people at once.
