It's been a long four years, the return of the magic number thread

In all the excitement I forgot about the Gaudreau factor. No wonder the Blue Jackets won't go away. Clearly and unlike the Leafs, Columbus is the actual "team of destiny".

I think it might be time for us to accept the fact that the Habs had their chance, had multiple chances, in fact, and they blew them all. This is not a team that thinks it can win on Wednesday night; this is a team that's hoping it won't need to win on Wednesday night.
All bullshit narratives

Here's the thing, they've worked hard to get here and overachieved on a whole. They have been carried by 14-13-48 most of the season. Secondary scoring from the Evans line gave them a boost for 5 weeks and that was important to get back "in da mix" but it was unsustainable.

They got gassed before the break and came out flying after the break so the talent is there, what's not is enough top tier talent for proper load management. Leaning on a few guys will tire them out, especially Montembeault who should not be playing 62 games in a year, he is not Price.

After the break the Dvorak line started supplying the secondary scoring which kept us in, and allowed us to move up the pack. This too wasn't sustainable.

Laine dropped off precipitously once teams figured out to dedicate a penalty killer to taking away his shot and leaving the Habs with a 4 on 3 which they inexplicably suck at.

There have been also many unforced errors on the coaching staff, who are also learning to win. Many head scratching decisions.

For me though, the most disappointing, frustrating and at times angering issue has been the lack of correction for atrocious D zone coverage and the very slow starts to games. These are things that can, and should be corrected. I understand MSL giving his guys optional skates to conserve energy but not when they start like dogs and can't figure out their own end. Skates are optional when you've got the play locked down.

So while it's been a wild ride and I'm appreciative that we've received a fun season to watch, we have to remember that this is over achieving. The whole has played better than the sum of the parts and that's the gist of it.

Regardless of outcome, they gave us something to look forward to in the future.

It would be a huge disappointment at this point to not get in. Huge. Would also end the season on a very sour note.

Sure but that's also a bitter pill of medicine. A summer of thinking we were right there for the players and should we have added help for management.

Again, I think they get in by the skin of their teeth, which is also a lesson.

I told you guys. This team ain’t making it, badly prepared, badly coached, lazy and tired, stupid flip plays all game. Columbus is going to get 4 easy points and Carolina hates us and will do everything to bury us. Unbelievable choke
Carolina will be concerned about injuries and will play load management. We're also getting the backup goalie.

I also have some faith in the Flyers tonight . . . but that could be misplaced. We'll see.
I think the Flyers would love to knock out CBJ. Also I don't buy the tanking for a draft pick because the parent company wants to see progress and ending the season hot will buy Briere more time.

Corporate hacks don't think like fans, never have.
