First of all, the Leafs haven't recovered because they are still playoff frauds. Second, it's only 4 years because of the Covid participation ribbons that the NHL handed out in 2020 and 2021. If not for that our drought would be worse because we weren't good enough to be a playoff team in either of those years either.
Also, who gives a shit? It takes as long as it takes. And as I've often said, squeaking into the last playoff berth and getting railed in the first round is a meaningless achievement anyway. If you aren't a Cup contender being in the playoffs is just a way for ownership to make a few bucks. It does nothing for me. Getting into the WC2 berth isn't an achievement. It's a participation ribbon. It's meaningless on its own. Irrelevant. At some point, you need to win in order for anything you do to be relevant.
The Habs may back into the playoffs tonight but that won't make them at all relevant on its own. They will need to beat Washington for it to mean anything.

And auditioning for a job with the big club is hardly an "insane" reason; it's all too plausible. The call-up's will have more motivation to play hard than a veteran who's half-assing the last game of the regular season.

If we clinch I will be happy (contrary to what Count seems to believe) and I think that we could even beat Washington. If we don't clinch I can assure you that I will not be the most upset person on this board. Not by a long shot. I had no expectations for this season so if it ends tomorrow then it's what was supposed to happen.
The Habs do not, for the time being, have to live up to anything. They are playing with house money and nothing is expected of them. If you want to see what fans are actually going to freak out when their team blows it go to the Leafs board. They are the team that is supposed to win. They are the team that can underachieve. The Habs have overachieved whatever happens tomorrow. We can enjoy our summer but Leafs fans can't unless they win it all (which we, and they, already know isn't going to happen)
