Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Poor clown Zeke.

Ottawa was taking so many stupid penalties that the refs felt bad and started giving them 10 minute misconducts instead of giving the Leafs more PPs.

It was honestly like stepping back in time to watch the playoffs Sens of yesteryear, who always figured that the way to play "tough" in the playoffs was to carry their sticks high and hit from behind.

Yep, interesting take form zeke when he knows that the Leafs would have been called for every one of those - and the panel would have lobbied for playoff suspensions between periods.

SO Jim Rutherford says Quinn Hughes has made it clear he wants to play with his brothers, be that in VAN or NJD.

Considering the Devils have Jack locked in, how long until Quinn is dealt to NJD for like, Hischier?

With both of his brothers already in New Jersey, that's essentially a demand to be traded to the Devils. Because not a chance in hell are the Devils going to trade Jack & Luke Hughes to the Canucks.

Quinn doesn't have any trade protection though and he's signed for two more seasons. So unless he's willing to hold out or do a Vince Carter-style pout-a-thon to force his way out of town, he doesn't really have a way to force Vancouver's hand.

So they can hold on to him and hope he changes his mind, trade him to the Devils if they can come up with a package they like, or they could even trade him to a contender that'd be fine with Hughes leaving as a UFA if it means they get to rent him for two full seasons first.

Yeah, that's a tough deal to swing the other way for Vancouver. But yeah, it would have to be rapey with Hughes being on a really good AAV for the next two years.

well, Quinn is the best of the 3, so it should be "not a chance in hell are the canucks going to trade Quinn to the Devils".

super complicated trade going the other way though unless jersey is horny for Pettersson. If they aren't, I don't see what Vancouver has that gets you to Hughes + Hughes in value.

Yeah, I don't disagree. Like I mentioned in my post above, Vancouver is under no obligation to trade their Hughes at all, or to trade him to his preferred destination if they do decide they want to get ahead of him leaving as a UFA and trade him.

But the Devils only have to wait two years until Quinn can be signed as a UFA. Whereas Jack is signed for five more years and Luke is under team control for a minimum of four more seasons. So leverage is not on Vancouver's side when it comes to uniting the Hughes brothers on one team.

Technically true, but Jersey has the hammer here, not Vancouver. If Quinn isn't willing to sign an extension, Vancouver kind of has to trade him now but the receiving team knows that they can't extend him either, so his trade value is diminished. The longer Vancouver waits, the more Quinn's value declines. Jersey could sit on this for 18 months and get him at deadlineish prices ffs.

What Quinn has ostensibly done is tell Vancouver management to either bend over and take it from Jersey no matter the price, or trade him for less than he's worth because if not, he's gone in 24 months.

Why is the Oilers game going against the AVS/Stars game? It should have gone against the Vegas game instead.

Vegas Wild series is Meh. These two are awesome.

At least one starts half hour earlier. Hopefully, overlap is limited.
