2nd Rnd '25 Playoffs: Leafs vs Panthers - Flo-Rida them onto the ECF - LFG!

Going to be interesting. We've shown evidence of another gear sporadically all season long - but not as something we can turn on deliberately.
 
The 3 lowest 5v5 chance round 1 series were:

1. Toronto/Ottawa: 4.14
2. Blues/Jets: 4.46
3. Panthers/Lighting: 4.67

So this series will be similar just instead of the chances going to Stutzle, Brady, Batherson, Giroux and Perron they will go to M. Tkachuk, Barkov, Reinhart, Verhage and Marchand. Plus the Panthers are an actually physical team.

All the big guns are going to have to show up again.

Also will have to closely watch if the Panthers have Stolarz number or vice versa. He had two stinkers against them in the regular season.

3. OTT 42.23

1. FLA 29.51
4. OTT 25.50


And really, Ottawa play pretty much the exact same system as florida tbh. Just with more talent.

Stolarz will have to be better this round, but we'll see whether Bob is tougher to crack than Ullmark was. Bob wasn't gr4at round 1 it's more that Vasi turned back into a pumpkin.
 
Bob isn't that good, but goaltending is typically not that important.

Probably more important for low event teams like the Leafs tho. Fewer events = more dependant on luck and goaltending.

Ottawa just finished all their checks on forcheck. It was supposed to wear out the Leafs D and cause turnovers, but was pretty benign. Florida elbowed guys in the face and without the puck, plus all their post whistle nonsense. Its different. Florida is a much dirtier, tougher team.

Most of the combos did well.

But that's pretty disappointing from McCabe-Tanev for sure. They have to be way better.

And that McMann-Domi-Patches combo was a disaster. Thankfully Holmberg is playing legitimately well so putting him at 3C works. I'd keep Domi on his wing for sure. Then the decision is between Patches and McMann on line 2 or 3. Both worked on both lines this series but i'm not sure is actually best. I would tend to think Tavares and Patches lack of speed on the same line isn't the best option tho. I's probably try mcmann on line 2 to start.

my memory of our previous loss against Florida was that we got goalied real hard in games 1 and 2.
