2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

So, out West last night Edmonton clubbed Vegas 3-0 for a 3-1 series lead. Yeah, they may be down to Skinner in net, but that clown just posted a shutout and Vegas is looking pretty clueless right now. Look the heck out if the Oilers start getting their defensive house in order.

One game tonight, as Dallas has a chance to also go up 3-1 over Winnipeg at home. Toronto and Florida are the only ones to manage a 2-2 series after the opening sets.

I think everybody expected that. They want a brand name and Quenneville and Sullivan are off the table. I think it's a bad fit, but it's a way better fit than Torts was, so ... congrats I guess.

Back to hockey, Dallas cooked the Jets last night but good, and took a 3-1 stranglehold on that series. People are really yapping up the Stars right now, but I have no idea how much of it (in this series) is their dominance and how much is the Jets looking like they need a therapist. That Winnipeg team is a boiling hot mess right now. I wasn't all that impressed with their win over Colorado either. The Avs did what they did all season ... they looked terrifying in possession, especially in transition, and otherwise really, really average.
 
Dreger and others say Adam Foote will be the Canucks head coach. He came in as an assistant when Tocchet was hired. His only head coaching experience was 1 year with WHL Kelowna in 2019-20

I'm kind of surprised this took so long also. There were some hints that this was all but a done deal as far back as the Canucks' exit interviews.
 
Bob woke up and so did the rest of the team. The Panthers are the defending champs for a very good reason.
 
So it's not the Leafs amazing ability to go on 3 game losing streaks in the playoffs and still manage to turn them into 7 game series?

I mean, yes ... but also the Leafs have come unglued like a 20 year old kindergarten art project. Both teams contribute to these series, which is why I'm always a bit reluctant to get carried away.

Unglued is a good way to put it. They look totally disjointed and they are acting like the gig is up (which maybe it is). That mess needs to be blown up.
 
The Leafs aren't doing any of the things that it will take to beat Florida; things I think the Canes will do.

Left to right puck movement, physical but not dirty, cycling the puck quickly, tape to tape passes...

Toronto and Winnipeg are both coming apart at the seams and potentially causing people to over rate the teams that are beating them. Florida and Dallas are good, for sure. Very good, solidly built, playoff tested. But I'm not sure either of them are quite as good as they looked in their last games.
 
The TO collapse, while not a real shocker, certainly has its roots this time in that forearm to Stolarz’s head. Too many goalies have had liberties taken without penalty and that’s an issue and will continue to be exploited going forward.

TO has gotten rid of Uncle Lou, Dubas, Babcock, and Keefe. Seems to me their only other option is to make a big change to their front 4 or give Shanahan a heave.
