2nd Rnd '25 Playoffs: Leafs vs Panthers - Flo-Rida them onto the ECF - LFG!

It's seriously fucked, but I'm right there with you.

I set up a recording cause I knew I'd possibly miss puck drop cause I race sailboats on Wednesday afternoons.

get home, go to start the recording. accidentally end up live, see the score (it was 4-0). and so I watched a bit more of the 2nd, then realized watching the Knicks game was better, and then went to bed midway through the third.

I'm just numb, and it sucks. I used to watch every minute religiously.
Even I can no longer be arsed to hate watch them anymore. I only watched part of last night's game while I was waiting for the Oilers game to start. Otherwise I've not watched more than 5 minutes of any Leafs playoff game. My joy of seeing this team fail so miserably and dramatically has been replaced by ennui. Even in defeat they no longer spark joy.

In my weaker moments, I almost pity them.

I still watch every minute of it but my spirit has slowly been crushed. It’s not just the loss of a stupid game. It’s my investment of what, 300+ hours per year into this team and then they get steamrolled at home in the biggest game of their lives? My phone is blowing up with taunts texted from all the wehaves that I play hockey with, and I haven’t even bothered to reply. Tired of the way they embarrass themselves and me with their performances. They have two games to fix this. If they don’t and Marner walks and we go into some retool or rebuild, I don’t think I have the energy to give a shit anymore.

Even I can't be bothered coming up with fresh material with which to taunt Leafs fans. My social media feeds are basically just a "greatest hits" album now. When you do nothing but run it back with the same core players every year for close to a decade and lose for essentially the same reasons every year for close to a decade, you eventually run out of things to talk about.

As the Barenaked Ladies once sang, "It's all been done. Woo-hoo-ooo!"

I dunno. This theory might hold some water if ROR went to another contending team.

The fact that he chose Nashville, the most mediocre, middle-of-the-road possible team in a non-hockey market is where I think the his main motivation for leaving is that he just wants to be anonymous and quietly collect his paycheque in a no-pressure situation.

I just don't buy it. He was asked specifically about the media etc later on and he said that was not it.

I mean, do you really expect him to answer that question honestly?

“Yes, I came to Nashville because there aren’t enough fans or media here who give two shits about hockey to bother me or impact my day-to-day life and because the team’s shit and thus won’t put any pressure or expectations on me.”

And I’m all ears for a plausible explanation for how you can square him leaving Toronto entirely because he didn’t believe he could win with this group, and then going to Nashville.

He did initially say the media was a reason though. He then backtracked months later and said people made too big a deal of it.
Either way he went to a team that did not look good at all.

Maybe because he felt that, unlike the Leafs, the Preds had an actual chance to get better?

think the family is still in Missouri IIRC. also Nashville was supposed to be good or at least better than that.
