2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Sounds like Washington is going full re-fit on their lines ahead of Game 5. McMichael at 3C with Leonard and Mangiapane, while Beauviller takes his spot on Strome's line. Protas slots in with Wilson and PLD. Eller is out, so Raddysh is back on the 4th line. So far as I can remember, McMichael hasn't played a full game at center since last season. I'd have put this in a game thread but there's not one up and I don't want to mess with the mojo

Just going by the number of faceoffs taken, that makes sense. McMichael took 109 faceoffs in the regular season, a number that low can really onky be when the center was tossed. By comparison, that would have been 10th on the Canes, behind Necas and Jost, ahead of Martinook. One thing that stuck out as I was looking at the stats was that Jankowski took 210 faceoffs in only 19 games. He took 223 in 41 games in Nashville,

From my perspective, this "the Canes are boring" stuff is largely fan driven. We sadly live in times when the media narrative is too easily driven by social media trends as the media desperately grasps for any engagement they can find. The sour grapes crew in both New Jersey and DC were hitting hard on how dull the Canes supposedly are, largely as a reaction to how bad they were making their favorite teams look. And hey ... fans are fans and they don't feel the need to comply with logic. Most of the hockey media also live in the social media space and they feel like they're serving their audience by going where they go. Add in useful idiots like Subban and Olczyk who have thinly veiled resentments and personal rooting interests and you start to get a gravitational pull going. Factor in that Carolina is never going to be any of the networks' darlings because of market size/viewership issues, so it's not like anybody has an incentive to rush in to support them and you get what we've seen the last few weeks. And as much as I love what Brind'Amour has done here, he ain't helping with his just the facts media presence and humorless presentation. A media darling like Carbery is better at packaging and presenting his approach and sadly that DOES matter.

Are the Canes boring compared to teams that play a breakneck transition game? Kinda. Are they boring compared to the way 90% of the league goes about actually playing hockey? Not really. Is man to man defense and a hyper pressurized forecheck boring? Far from it, nor is is as unusual as people want to pretend. Is Carolina's ready/shoot approach boring? It can be, but generally shots are more interesting than fancy drop passes to nobody. Is Carolina actually the most interesting team in the league like a lot of Canes fans claim on the socials? God, no. They're a lunch pail team that plays a lunch pail game with a lot of guts and heart. If people want to pretend that's boring, I say let 'em be stupid. But they're no more the 80s Oilers than they are the 90s Devils.

The boring narrative is true if you’re a Caps fan or Devils fan in the first two rounds when you had large swaths of both of those series where your team couldn’t touch the puck to save their life! If my team were two steps behind with no ability to play with the puck in the offensive zone I’d be pretty bored too! 🤣

Everyone crying "boring" would do well to remember the days of clutch and grab and water skiing on each other. Getting rid of the two line pass rule and actually enforcing hooking, holding, and interference livened up the game a lot.

...And their teams are headed to the golf course right now. So, all those calling Carolina boring can enjoy a nice tall glass of STFU.

Personally, I enjoy watching Carolina out-work, out-hustle, out-will, and dominate opponents. If you can't hang, either learn how, or go away.

For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't understand, no explanation is possible.

Boring? Not at all…How can winning and tight games be boring? How can controlling the puck and watching us cycle be boring? You know when we are boring? on the power play— that’s our boring!

I was rooting for a Game 7 in the Stars-Jets series in the hope that I’d only miss one game of the Canes’ series while traveling in Europe on business this week. 🙁

ECF schedule is out. Regardless of who wins tomorrow, it starts on Tuesday and goes every other day.
If it's Florida and at home, I may be in the doghouse forever. My wife and I have a fancy spring annual fundraiser that we've already paid to attend. After disrupting Easter Sunday's plans and missing our church's big Saturday pig-pickin', I'm not very popular with my family.

And with the games on TNT, we’re going to be tested to a steady diet of Jordan Martinuke and Ron Francis’ fingerprints.

RBA said Chatfield is questionable for Tuesday, Orlov had a rest day. Martinook left early, he wasn’t feeling 100%
