2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

I guess I’m posting in the wrong thread. I’ve been putting all the leaf updates in the NHL thread lol. Looks like half the conversation is in there and the other half is in here.

Chatfield and Martinook sat out practice. Marty said he’d be ready, I’m pretty sure it would take an amputation for him to come out of the lineup. RBA said Chatfield was still a doubt and he’d have to practice before going back into the lineup. The Canes are scheduled to skate tomorrow so we’ll see.

If they need to sub in for Chats, I'm torn as I think short term Morrow might be the smarter option, but Nikishin I think can be a bigger potential impact player even this playoffs

Whatever's going on with Marty seems to be upper body stuff. His skating has been pretty good compared to a couple of playoffs when he was playing through knee and groin issues and he looked like Bambi's overly aggressive brother. Chatfield, I dunno. When Brindy starts waffling like that it's usually a lot worse than it sounds. Maybe a knee or ankle issue. Definitely lower body based on his leg buckling on that last shift in Game 4. I'm assuming he's done, personally. If he comes back and can be effective that's great, but mentally I'm writing him off.

Last year, Pesce was on the verge of coming back every day. And then we found out after the fact that he had a fibula fracture. So take the injury reports with an entire mine of salt.

Yup. Context clues are WAY more reliable than the nonsense the team releases to the public. None of us who watched Pesce block that shot right above his boot last spring were surprised to find out later that he broke something

Speaking of injuries, Florida only seems to be without Nico Sturm. No idea what happened to him but he's been out for a couple of games. No big deal, as he's a low impact bottom six guy now. Since they got Ekblad back from suspension, their D as been settled. Tkachuk doesn't seem fully healthy following that groin nick he took in 4 Nations, but he's still playing his normal role. For the first time this post season the Canes are more beat up than their opponent.

Sturm has been a healthy scratch for good reason as soon as Mo went with that effective fourth line of Greer, Gadjovich and Nosek, that line the past 4 games played so well together. I expect MO to leave that trio together which means Sturm, Boqvist and Samsovich remain as healthy scratches.

The XM radio crew today brought up the dreadful "Canes are 0-12 in there last 3 conference final rounds".
Are they wrong? Of course they're going to bring that up, because ... it's accurate and relevant. The Canes got that ass kicked the last two times they made the Eastern final. Yeah, the last time was closer than it looks from a distance but I'll disagree with Roddy's takeaway on that. Losing is losing and getting swept is getting swept.

That said, who cares? This is not the same Florida team and not the same Carolina team. And this Canes team is NOT the Leafs. This won't be one of those series where Mo can just turn up the pressure, adjust the breakout and the forecheck and cause his opponent to fold because they've never functioned like an actual team. Either way all the stuff that everybody's going to worry about before the games start is just freaking noise.
