2nd Rnd '25 Playoffs: Leafs vs Panthers - Flo-Rida them onto the ECF - LFG!

We all know Marner is re-signing. I just hope a brand new Hockey Opps does the signing.

JT will be their 3rd line Centre, and Laughton their 4th. The question will be: who will be the 2nd line Centre?

I wouldn’t even blink at Auston leaving at this point.

Whether he fails to even come close to his regular season level of play in the playoffs because he’s a choker or because he’s so fragile that he’s perpetually unable to be healthy enough to compete by game one of the playoffs—it really makes no functional difference at this point.

No way. Odds of that were extremely low even before that debacle last night.

He’s gone.
 
When cooler heads prevail people will realize that resigning Marner is a strong possibility. Letting him walk for nothing is not something that will be palatable to the higher ups.

Maybe if he agrees to a sign and trade but he didn't agree to move for Rantanen so I don't see that happening.

It's a possibility but reports are Mitch already turned down $13-13.5M x 8. Doubt they would even table that offer again at this point.

Yeah. No talks to extend him, then they asked him to waive his NTC mid season. Doesn’t look like either side is into a deal

It seemed like he was looking towards the dmen since McCabe was in the frame, so I’m thinking maybe Carlo since he’s new and he was on for the first three goals.

The more I thought about it, it wouldn’t be Willy sitting on 15 points unless there’s bad blood since the stop crying bro incident.

Kind of rich for Matthews to throw others under the bus. With 26 goals in 68 career playoff games. That’s not a small sample size

If you’re playing that game, you’re using the situation to get him at $11.5 or $12m max, with no NMC. You want to be a Leaf? Prove it. And you don’t prove shit with $14m and no movement that provides a lifetime pass to causing playoff collapses.
 
No way he's sticking around to be the scapegoat for the next 8 years.

He either moves on to play a big role with a club where he is sheltered by bigger stars or to a team where he is essentially anonymous but his days here are done.
 
It won’t be Tampa but Marner needs a coach like Cooper who says nice things about him.

The Leafs have always hired the same coach — some gruffy old school guy who takes offensive talent for granted and instead focuses on defensive discipline at all costs
 
They just can’t be together here. The weight of the past failures is too much for them. Their performance was an abomination. Can’t come back with the Core 4 + Mo.

But most of all Shanny and Tre need to go. They’ll never build a good enough team. They’ve failed miserably.

Promoting Treliving to the Shanahan spot and finding a new GM or letting Treliving be all of the front office seems very on brand to me
