2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

no team has ever won squat with Domi as >

5-5 in 10 career playoffs series. Not bad. Never lost a series in less than 6gms.

Mostly with him as the 3C on those teams - 13:41toi, 4.7 faceoffs per game (56.9fo%).

13gl/43pt pace in the playoffs, with next to no PP time (13gl/39pt pace at evens).

Also a plus player. Also a gritty annoying asshole.

He is horrible defensively though. Despite that chance creation he was a 41% xGF in round 2.

If he’s a center you have to play him with some play driving responsible wingers that can score, which the Leafs didn’t have on their 3rd line. He need a Antropov/Poni.

Or just put him with Matthews

Plug your nose, close your eyes and ignore his nerdies. I still think he's best alongside a guy that can drive a line.

Was funny listening to Jonas and mirtle the other day. They both think he'll be waived this summer. Of course the truth is somewhere in between them and zeke.

as if that's even bad compared to the rest of the team.

for his career playoffs he's at 47.7xgf%, -0.8rel. meh not awful.

and we are always crying we need more offense from our bottom 6.

Domi's 2yrs as a Leaf:

Season 5v5: 2.20p/60 (#3 of 42), 1.69p1/60 (#5 of 42), 49.8xgf% (#22 of 42)
Playoffs 5v5: 2.40p/50 (#3 of 28), 1.68p1/60 (#5 of 28), 44.1xgf% (#15 of 28)

zeke: good offensive 3rd line centre
mirtle: waive him!

the truth is not in the middle.

amazing how people refuse to admit they were wrong about Domi.

even when they cry for more offense from the bottom 6 and more players who raise their game in the playoffs.

I mean 40% xgf in the playoffs is not ideal any way you slice it. Credit to him for converting his chances and shooting 18% and getting a very high on-ice save% from the goaltending, but his line guy caved in every time he was on the ice. Putting a line driver alongside him could fix that quite easily, however. And he was nowhere near the biggest issue of the team, I agree!

Which of course doesn't make it any better. I would have wanted to win his easy minutes possession-wise. He produced and that's lovely but I can't pretend that he did it in a sustainable manner.

The issue is that they had the balls to accept the reality that they were never going to win with Jumbo Joe and got rid of him. They didn't live in denial like the Leafs have for the last 5 years.

The core 4 should have been broken up in some form or other the second they lost game 7 to the Habs in 2021. Every game the Leafs have played since has just been a waste of time.
You keep repeating this dumb shit.

Tavares was injured and out in the first ten minutes of game 1. There’s one of the core 4.

The other three were like 24 years old, so one or two of them should’ve just been given up on and shipped out? That would’ve been the smart move, huh?

Agree with all of this, but he’d still need to move to the wing. Having his name penciled in at center on any line is pure barf.

-0.22 rel xGF in the regular season and -0.6 in the playoffs. Despite soft usage.

He clearly sucks defensively. I'm not sure what is controversial about getting him some good, play driving wingers instead of guys like Robbie/Patches/McMann (who all also stink defenively) if he is going to be a C. Those types are much easier to find than a center.
