2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

But that’s just me. Value? Sure. But we need a different look altogether. I want him and his loser stench out of here.

He wants to take the spezza contract and play 3LW/C? Maybe.

50/50 split between players and owners seems fair on it's face and seems to work from a business standpoint towards the future growth and stability of the league.

Without the owners taking the risk there would be no NHL. There will always be players. Greed is common between the owners and the players. But I would agree that the owners are far worse in that regard.

In a cap world no team can turn down what he brings for 5, and as big of a bitch as he is in the playoffs at 5M you can afford for him to be. Also, there is not a single player in the league to where its impossible to win with them
 
If he takes 5 with the cap going up, it shows for the first time that one of the top guys took a discount to help the team in other areas. Mitch isn't going to do that, nor should he take that big a hit because of his age, but JT is.
I still tell him to start the year on the third line and mentor Cowen and then come February go on LTIR until the playoffs and use 5 mill to top up.

I would even love to tell pacciorety to be with his family and rest and in Jan/Feb sign him to just warm up and practice to be ready.
Then give him playing in 3 or 4th line duty for the last few weeks of reg season and see what happens in playoffs

I don't know if it was Matthews' injury, or Marner's ongoing contract garbage, or what, but they all looked miserable all season long.

How many times do you need to be told that Tavares is a cancer before you believe it? He always has a look like someone just put a dog turd under his nose. He brings everyone else's mood down. For a guy who realized a childhood dream of making $11mill...err...I mean, playing for the Leafs, he sure doesn't appear to be a very happy person. He looks like he's in desperate need of a prescription for an anti-depressant.

Exactly. It's not that they lost money, just that they didn't make as much money as they expected. Corporations see these as "losses" even though they lost nothing. But they do view them as fireable offenses, ergo Shanahan being dumped.

You must be the last person on the planet who believes that if player salaries are lowered then ticket prices will also be lowered. That is never happening. The reason why tickets for a Leafs playoff game start at over $600 for an obstructed view in the nosebleeds isn't because Tavares and Marner are overpaid, it's because Leafs fans have more money than brains and will pay whatever it costs. Suddenly lowering salaries and capping them at $2 million won't lower the price of that ticket by one penny.

The Leafs don't charge these prices because they need to pay Matthews. They charge what they charge because they can.

Those 2 are under contract. In other words, that mistake has already been made. Resigning either or both of the other 2 would be a separate mistake.

It's not about the money. It's about the stench of failure he brings to the table. He's been a loser his entire career. He's another Marleau. An accumulator of useless, ineffectual goals and assists that don't move the needle. LOF brings up that flukey series winner as if it means something when it is, in actual fact, the only significant goal He's ever scored in his entire, underwhelming career.
