2024-25 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

According to PuckPedia, the Canes must sign Patrik Hamrla and Nikita Quapp by June 1 or they lose their rights.

Quapp was on a decent trajectory until the 2023 World Juniors when he got shelled repeatedly and he never seemed to find any traction after that.
Yeah, I don't see either Quapp or Hamrla signing pro contracts with Carolina. And it's nice to see Spencer Martin move on. He gave us some badly needed help in 23-24, but he never got going this season.

Canes need to make a trade to get a legit prospect goaltender into the system. Look for some teams deep in goaltending prospect capital like Detroit and see if you can pry one of them away in a solid hockey trade!

I would be shocked if the Canes bother signing Quapp or Hamrla. June 1st 2026 it will be Vondras getting the 'unsigned' treatment. None of these guys are NHL level goalies...they might not be AHL or even ECHL level goalies. I know we need SOMEONE in the minors to be the #4 and #5, but Quapp and Hamrla are not worthy of an entry level contracts.

Yanev Perets is a pending RFA. Khazheyev has 2 more years left on his entry level deal. We know that SOMEONE with NHL experience will be signed to be our #3 goalie. Who the #4 and #5 will be remains to be seen. Khazheyev would likely take one of those spots if he doesn't end up being loaned out somewhere. The only other goalies we have rights to are Yegor Velmakin, who barely played at all in Russia this past season and Yegor Naumov, who again seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Oh, we do still have rights to Jacob Kucharski, who doesn't play in any league that keeps track of stats.

We haven't been very good at the dart throws for goalies.

I need to find a sub goalie for my beer league team the next 2 weekends... if whoever I find is any good I'll let GMET know...

OK, so ... Perets. He had a decent run in the ECHL with a .500 record and a .921 save percentage on a not great team, but was pretty awful in light rotation in Chicago. I'm thinking he's going to need another ECHL/AHL split season before they'll make a call on him and given the shallow pro goalie pool in the organization I'd think he'll get a new contract. Khazheyev played more in the A, but was pretty terrible as the third wheel in Chicago. Honestly, they both look like ECHL goalies at this stage.

With Martin gone and Tokarski out of contract and pushing middle age, you'd have to think the Canes will be starting from scratch at the AHL level. They'll need a No. 3 with at least some NHL game and probably an AHL vet like Tokarski to keep Chicago's ownership sweet. Those guys exist in the market, so that's not exactly a big hill to climb, but I'm not so sure where Kochetkov sits after this season's "contributions." We know they've got Freddie locked in and Kooch is at least signed but I could see the Canes looking to make more than minor league changes. I doubt anybody's got a ton of faith in Kochetkov after how many times he spit the bit when it mattered this season.

Torpedo Gorky with Nikita Atamonov, Andre Krutov and Alexander Pelevin won the VHL Championship.

Quapp has barely played any games since being drafted. There is a reason for that.
His high point was last year, 2 games for top division Berlin and 26, half the season, for 2nd division Lausitzer. He was good in the 2nd division with a .920 save %. But he was bad in Berlin, 6 goals allowed on 33 shots in 99 minutes.

Would have been nice to have "Quapp" on a Canes sweater, but you don't qualify a guy based on his name. See also "Robin Big Snake."

I mean, the guy's a Quappy goalie. Just go ahead and make the joke, man.

Puzzling, but it was also puzzling when they signed Khazheyev last year. And again, it's not like they have any depth at the position, so ... whatever. The ECHL needs goalies too

I googled “German restaurants in Greensboro”. There are quite a few…

Yeah. The Moravian* influence in Greensboro and Winston Salem has meant that there has always been more German culture there than in the rest of NC.

Yes. I know that technically the Moravians were a Czech movement but a lot of their missionary activity came from their churches in Bavaria.
