2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

Creating cap space seems to be a dodgy excuse - they have a ton of UFAs expiring on July 1, their contract structure for core players appears to be sensible and the cap is set to zoom over the next three seasons. They will commit to Harley ~+ 5-7 M/yr, that will be more than the increase for Robertson who already makes 7M. If they want cap more space it would have to be for a huge UFA. I don’t see the internal pressure.

Draft capital, yeah, they are poor there.

Big trading top 6 just for draft capital when you are a contender? 🫤

More like a DNA change. Which is crazy for a team having been to the file 4 multiple times.

They went out and got Miko (a new best player) and that should’ve been their DNA change. However, one had to have foreseen JR being the odd man out once Miko came on.

Yeah. That makes a bit more sense.

Not sure if that’s a red flag, but it’s curious.

Maybe he’s their Huberdeau…

Miko could "hide" in Denver behind MacKinnon. He won't have that luxury in Dallas, where he'll be counted on to be "The Guy."

This is what good teams who want to do more than just make the final 4 do. They arent afraid to make moves because they know that making the semifinals isn't the goal.

Compare and contrast with the Leafs and their loser mentality. They're afraid to let an expensive and perennial failure like Marner walk because "what if he succeeds elsewhere?" They're happy winning a round and are too chickenshit to make moves that might get them further.

If you arent winning the Cup your season has been a failure and things need to change. There can be no sacred cows, no "untouchables". Dallas understands this. Toronto refuses to understand.

Avalanche should have just signed Kadri. They probably have one more cup at least.
Avs like other teams offered a 4 year deal

He doesnt sign well in to August and Flames caved on a 7 year deal after their fuck up with Ktachuk

If they keep Kadri , Lek and Nichkushin are gone
