Around The League - 2025 Offseason

Count is the only non-Leafs fan I know of who is having so much trouble coping with the idea of an Edmonton victory.
Yeah, I think most of us older crowd, at least down east, are probably somewhat indifferent to Edmonton. As we were when they were winning in the 80s. Some of the same older crowd might like to see the Cup come north for a change, but don't see the NHL as a flag waving thing, like the younger bunch.

I'm enjoying the series, but really was more hoping more for a good event than one team or the other winning. We have that. But its a bit of a bummer not having a stake, or at least some rooting interest one way or the other.

If I hate them all year, why would I want them to win now?

Did you hate them in the 80s, or is this hate more recent?
He hates all Canadian teams because he thinks that the oddity of the Habs being the last Canadian team to win a Cup means something or is some sort of accomplishment when, in actual fact, it means nothing and isnt an accomplishment of any sort.

It is only important that the Leafs never win. Otherwise it doesn't matter.

I wasn't too keen on them the year they beat us in the playoffs (1981?). But they were kind of a novelty then, I hadn't gathered any prior dislike and the short series was over before we knew it.

I had more dislike for Calgary, due probably to 1989. That lasted a few years, and maybe even a little today. But they've been a non-entity since then, really, other than their team of plumbers in 2004.

I hated Oilers from league arrival and for many years. Calgary was the same. It faded in the last decade. Now i don't mind either although i'm far from a fan.

Since I live in Edmonton if the Oilers are in the playoffs I'm fine with them winning, especially if they're playing teams I dislike, like Florida. The only time in 26 years if living in Vancouver when I ever cheered for the Canucks was in the 94 playoffs when they played 2 teams I hated more: the Leafs in the semis and the Rangers instead the final. Aside from that, I only ever cheered for the Canucks when they played the Leafs.
