Laughton.

That’s where the holding the jersey as a kid pic comes into play.Leafs i have no doubt will be in play if he hits market, but to put them ahead of the Bolts, Panthers, Stars, Knights, Kings, or Rangers is silly. I would think the Avs, Hawks, and Red Wings would like a word as well, but put them well behind the above mentioned and Toronto. I also suspect he wouldnt give any other Canadian team the time of day
Oh right yeah, thats arguably worse than anything Dubas ever did.Laughton.
Yeah, this shit doesnt matter anymore. That’s where the holding the jersey as a kid pic comes into play.
I can get behind that, but like Bennett, what Knies brings isn’t just goals and points. He is worth the $8m if we want to be fair about the overall impact of his game.Knies at 8M coming off of a 59 point season tied to two offensive superstars would be very, very dumb imo. I'd rather pay him his 9-10 after he breaks out as a PPG 40 goal power forward than give in to his 8 now, and watch him show us that his 19% shooting this season was a fluke, but that he's actually just a lovely ~25 goal winger at 8 million for the next 8 years.
You live on the weirdest possible island.
I also think that Tre knows that optics are on his side here. I can only think of one Leaf fan that will be pissed of Tavares walks. Most want him gone, some want him back at a very specific number
McDavid, with Matthews to be his 2C, Tavares as his 3C, Nylander and Knies on the wings, good goalies, good defensive D, Cowan maybe a difference maker. Even if the team wasn’t his childhood team, it’s super attractive to join, but even more so since he dreamed of being a Leaf.Yeah, this shit doesnt matter anymore.
Professional athletes are groomed differently these days.
We’re losing 170 points from those two, if they both go. That’s very hard to replace. I’m sure other teams in the east will improve whereas we may only max out at sideways or worse.
To his credit, Tre is scared of big swings and rarely makes impact trades unless absolutely forced, and has relied on UFAs and has been pretty good in that department. But as I said above, he never had to replace a Marner, and if we flame out next year, his own job is probably gone. So does the high stakes situation cause him to blow a tire? I don’t know, but I’m very concerned. At least bringing back Tavares for cheap would make me sure about the playoffs. Anything beyond that depends on the Marner replacements.
The only realistic way of making that happen is landing the Florida guys. Failing that, I’m not going to bet on them making some super genius under the radar nerd coup moves. We are, but meh. We've piled assets and opportunity into 4 slots in the lineup for a bunch of years now, and run out a skeleton crew of misfit bullshit behind those 4 slots for most of it. So you see the 170 points from the 2 guys, but I see an opportunity to have a proper middle 6 and to replace that 170 points with 2 guys that give us 110 of those, and then get the other 60 by committee elsewhere in the lineup.
The team that beat us in the playoffs had one guy with more than 80 points this year, but had 3 lines that could ruin you. That's what I want. Auston and Willy with 7 other guys who can actually make plays and win games.
Which is why they would be a very strong candidate and would be considered, but i wouldn't think the favourite.McDavid, with Matthews to be his 2C, Tavares as his 3C, Nylander and Knies on the wings, good goalies, good defensive D, Cowan maybe a difference maker. You might need to accept that the regular season team is going to be worse on paper in order to be bitch free come the playoffs. The only realistic way of making that happen is landing the Florida guys. That's what I said numbnuts.
Also, just a brief reminder. We were 1 game away from the ECF a few weeks ago.
Sure, but again, he was replacing trash. And he got a couple of good guys for cheap in free agency and then overpaid for Carlo. Not that hard, but smart moves. Trying to replace Marner, with just UFA money and no trade capital, it’s gonna be tough.Listen, I don't love Trebitch in the least. But he reworked our blueline with a bunch of gritty nerd moves pretty quick.
I’m okay with that, but this notion that we’re going to replace a key player (who also had 13 points in 13 playoff games) with guys who don’t bring half his production but will just find ways to produce in tough playoff games is unrealistic. The Panthers are really good in the regular season, as good or better than us, so I’m not sure that being worse in the regular season will be the formula to being unstoppable in the playoffs. You might need to accept that the regular season team is going to be worse on paper in order to be bitch free come the playoffs.
No one is suggesting this offseason is going to be easy, but Marner clearly has to go, and wants to go and Tavares clearly needs to be strongarmed, or he can fuck off too.I’m okay with that, but this notion that we’re going to replace a key player (who also had 13 points in 13 playoff games) with guys who don’t bring half his production but will just find ways to produce in tough playoff games is unrealistic. One game which needed 6 more goals.
