2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

ok, and why don't they want to pay him, but we do? and give them stuff in a trade too?

Because they know they need help up the middle and they haven't gotten over the hump with this core yet, so everything is on the table.

If they don't get a ransom for Robertson, I have no doubt that they'll re sign him.

oh so you mean they'll trade him for a centre if they can get one. I thought you meant to the Leafs.

If they were dumb enough to give him up for something like Knies + Carlo we should be all over it. But yeah, from their standpoint they're probably looking to turn him into a centre.

I have no problem trading any of those guys for a young high end dman or center. Knies is really hard to trade though.
Knies should be basically untouchable. You can't get this kind of all-tools player again at this age contributing big right out the gate.

Cowan could be something special and should be in the lineup all season, unless he clearly shows he can't cut it.

Robertson is probably an automatic 25 goals with any kind of stable top 6 role. They should use the opportunity to sign him to a multi-year deal for cheap and then play the fuck out of him.

I mean Robbie is the perfect illustration of why trading Cowan for a stud dman or c makes sense.

Robbie is not hard to replace. Maybe Cowan becomes better in a few years, but maybe not.

Robertson didn't do anything near what Cowan has done though.

And if you follow that approach, then you're always trading your prospects and young guys before they have a chance to show anything, and sure, you may hold onto the downside sometimes, but other times you're going to totally gift some team a lot of upside.

How would those of you that wanted to trade Knies a couple deadlines ago look right now if they'd dealt him?
