No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Yep, that's why I would consider moving him not if it bring back an impact forward from a desperate team.

Can't see him being worth more in trade than he is to us this year either.

Like I said man, nothing wrong with being patient and seeing what the first half of the season brings. Worry about next summer, next summer.

This isn't a throwaway year, we're competing this year still.

Stolarz needs to play a lot more games to be worth a big deal. He’s never been healthy.

I’d be fine signing him to an extension this off-season if it’s one where there’s some mutual risk.

2-3 years at around a $4-$4.5M AAV would be a pretty nice bag for a 31 year-old who’s only been making a full-time NHL salary for the past four seasons, and who’s total salary during that stretch was $5.5M.

But then that’s obviously far less than he’d potentially make if he “bet on himself”, put up .920 while shouldering a starter’s workload in the regular and/or while backstopping a deep playoff run.

Tldr: sweet spot of shared risk? Jays have one hot streak and all of a sudden lgm is tossing out shatkins posts.

Except that there's pretty much no chance that's going to happen.

Deep playoff run maybe, but the only way he's likely able to do that is if he only plays around 40 games in the regular season.

But what is that worth? 40 games plus potential to take you deep in the playoffs? I don't know, but that deal is probably around for us to strike at the end of next season just as well as it would be in the beginning of it.

I’m cool with running it as is:

Knies - Matthews - Robertson
Maccelli - Tavares - Nylander
Laughton - Roy - Domi
McMann - Kampf - Jarnkrok

Or whatever config. But having Kampf and Jarnkrok eating almost 5 mil of cap for multiple years now is sickening. Such a waste.

In a more ideal scenario I’d have:

Knies - Matthews - xxxx
Tavares - xxxx - Nylander
Maccelli - Roy - xxxx
McMann - Laughton - xxxx

It’d def be hard to get all that done in 1 offseason.

Tavares doesn't need to slide over. Find a young winger. Much easier than finding a center better than Tavares.

Kampf definitely won't be on the roster - Berube has no use for him. Jarn might be if they can't make a move, but I think that situation is more about them wanting to keep him around until they do have his replacement, because he can still play fine on the wing.

I have no problem starting the season with

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Robertson-Tavares-Nylander
Maccelli-Roy-McMann
Lorentz-Laughton-Whoever wins the job in camp

A McMann upgrade would be nice at the deadline, and answering who is better between Robbie and Maccelli would probably answer which of the two is worth keeping and which gets dangled in trade.

well yea have Tavares as 2LW would be a luxury. Thats the point. That’d mean we acquired a better 2C. That’s the more ideal part.

How would that ever happen with the assets we have? That's a UFA solve, not a trade solve, where things currently stand.

Carlo unlocks a young forward from somewhere.

And Robertson probably unlocks Karlsson from Dubie with retention to be figured out.

I'm also banking on Cowan showing up and becoming a key player for us.

Robertson has 2nd or 3rd round pick trade value, not Karlsson.

Brad's been loudly talking about having both Roy and Laughton at center, and adding another top-6 scorer, so I think we know the plan.

And having those 2 and matthews at centre will let us keep tavares in cushy matchups.
