OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Raptors first summer league game.

Current 1st half reactionary hot takes based on tiny sample sizes.

- Alijah Martin doesn't look quick enough to guard pros
- Mogbo doesn't look like he's improved offensively at all. Dude better find a middie or something at least or hope that CMB is a longer term project than the front office thinks. Can defend at an NBA level though definitely.
- Walter looks faster, stronger, and slick. He's taking Gradey's job, maybe Okai's as well this year.
- Chomche is two years away from being two years away. Moves well for being yuge though.

Apparently Walter’s put on 15 pounds

He played at 6’5 180.

Walter sloppy down the stretch of the 2ndQ. Bricking a few semi open 3's and a bad turnover.

Updated hot takes:

- Alijah is a terrorist once he gets down hill. I was expecting a bit more "shead" in his on ball defence though. Looks more like a plus team defender than a POA guy.
- If Mogbo worked on a jumper at all this off season we haven't seen it yet. Looks like the same dude.
- When Battle can just stand in open space and shoot he's fine.
- Not sure if I wish Shead was trying to take over a bit more or not. Just a steady and composed half from him.

All in all it was Raptors basketball. Got like half of their points on turnovers, defended like assholes, and can't score in the half court.

Shit....Lawson might deserve a look in the rotation.

He might not be good enough, but he sure looks like the best player on the floor tonight. Looked that way down the stretch a bunch of times too when we were in hard tank mode.

So, if you were hoping that the Raptors could generates a couple few rotation players this year to help raise the floor of this team, it's hard to be upset with today's game. Defended like anti social assholes and generated about a million turnovers. The guys you would hope for looked too good for this level of competition even if guys with limitations didn't exactly look prone to outgrow them.

Chomche may arrive sooner

Memphis buying Cole Anthony out and he's signing with Milwaukee....which is a fucking gift for Milwaukee. Anthony is underrated imo. Legit rotation guard, good defender.

As long as they stay healthy, he's right.

Just to piggy back on my rankings from the other day, here's their starting 5's and my projected BPM (just the sum of a rough avg of what each player does when healthy) of their starting 5's (24/25 EPM in brackets)

Cavs: Spider, Mobley, Allen, Garland, Hunter
Proj BPM: +15.5 (12.1 EPM)

Magic: Wagner, Paolo, Bane, Suggs, WCJ
Proj BPM: +11 (10.3 EPM)

Knicks: Brunson, KAT, OG, Mikal, Hart
Proj BPM: +10.5 (8.0 EPM)

Bucks: Giannis, Turner, KPJ, GTJ, Anthony
Proj BPM: +9.5 (4.8 EPM)

Pistons: Cade, Duren, Tobias, Robinson, Ausar
Proj BPM: +9 (3.3 EPM)

Heat: Bam, Herro, Norm, Wiggins, Ware
Proj BPM: +6.5 (4.2 EPM)

Raptors: Scottie, Ingram, Jake, IQ, RJ
Proj BPM: +8.5 (5.0 EPM)

Hawks: Trae, Tingus, JJ, NAW, Daniels
Proj BPM: +9 (Heavily dependent on Tingus staying healthy, which won't happen with his condition, +5-6 without Tingus)
(5.4 EPM w Tingers, 3.7 w/o)

So yeah, our starting lineup is definitely in line with teams who are competing for the 4-5-6 spots just based on everyone putting in more or less a typical effort by their standards. The question with the Raptors is can they all play together and can they stay healthy. The collection of talent is definitely competing for a playoff spot though.

Is this the likely roster heading in or are there moves expected still?

I think they're pretty committed to not spending this year (the Raptors as an org tend to only spend when they're actually competitive) so I don't think they'll go deep into the tax on marginal upgrades. Though I think it's really likely to assume that they're active behind the scenes looking for a RJ upgrade, but that's harder to swing than most people think imo.

Some interesting veterans left on the market as well if we're so inclined. Boucher, Melton, Brogdon, GP2, Walker but I don't think they'll do anything in the market at this point, especially if the kids keep looking this good in summer league. I think we're more likely to see a mid season trade with someone like Okai or Gradey going out for a better veteran rotation player than hitting free agency.
