OT: Movies/TV Shows

Took my girl to see this last night, both of us went in blind without having seen any trailers or reading anything about it…..and had a blast, both of us loved it.

Got to see it in a little indie theatre that was kinda reminiscent of a rich persons personal screening theatre.….and since it wasn’t canted at the usual angle a big theatre is you’re able to sit front row dead center, and it’s feels like it’s playing just for you. Was perfect.

Ari Aster directs, Joaquin stars…..it’s a dusty neo-noire western in the vein of No Country, and Hell or High Water, or a Jim Thompson pulp novel like “The Killer Inside Me”

There’s a few things I’d nitpick about it, but overall thought it was a great flick, and recommend anyone seeing it especially if you haven’t seen trailers yet.

"Dangerous Animals" is a fun, cheesy B movie. Interestingly enough, Jai Courtney was a guy who struggled bad years ago when Hollywood tried him as a star in big budget movies. In a support role in a film like this he's fantastic. Some just work better in character roles.

Trailer did look bad. I have a buddy who's a film critic that saw it and i generally trust his opinion and he really loved it.

Some think Shampoo or 12 Angry Men was Jack warden at his finest. I disagree. Hands down it was Dirty Work. “When I was growing up we didn’t have fancy contraceptives… like pulling out.”

Dirty work also had a legendary Farley cameo. What a flick.

It's Liam Neeson playing against type. It's going to be awesome.

In fact, that's a big reason why the original Police Squad TV show and subsequent movie franchise was so successful. Because prior to Police Squad, Leslie Nielsen was known as a dramatic actor, often playing villains but almost always dead serious. Thats why it worked.

And the same people did the same thing in the Airplane movies. Robert Stack, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges and Neilsen were not comedic actors and they played their roles with deadpan earnestness. Thats why it worked.

If you've ever seen that bit Neeson did with Ricky Gervais and Warwick Davis where he says he wants to do improv you know right away that this will be a hit.
