2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Leafs are still a dangerous cup contender if AM plays to his former level and Stolarz stays healthy.

Tho I would also try to add a dynamic d-man

Yeah, a do everything top 10 defender really is our biggest need by a lot. Even with the loss of Marner, I'm not at all convinced that a group of wingers consisting of Nylander, Knies, Maccelli, Robertson, Domi, Joshua isn't comfortably above average.

How many teams that think of themselves as contenders actually have 2 wingers better than Nylander-Knies? Vegas (lol) sure. Dallas, Tampa, Florida, Winnipeg maybe...it's not a long list.

They need some guys to step up on the wings, but they have legit options in Maccelli, Cowan, Robby. And if those guys don't then you probably need to add at the deadline. Guys like Panarin, Tuch, Schmaltz, Kane, Lee, Malkin, Schwartz, Marchmet could be on the move.

The D I don't know how the hell they do though.

Getting a 1D at this stage means giving up Cowan and a 1st at minimum, which doesn't get an elite one, but maybe Hamilton or someone like that.

They should forget about the defensive issues and really just try to pry EK out of Dubie for a fair price and then turn around and trade Carlo for a good young forward, or OEL for best they can get.

You've spent the last few years saying that they'd be better without Marner. Why the change of heart?
I, for one, have never heard anything negative about the Leafs come from these Habs fans previously, and want to see where this goes.

So, overruled, I'll allow it.

All I wanted. All I want, is to see him get 15-20 games with a bit of freedom and lineup security, played in the top 6 and see what happens.

We've managed him like we want him to fail.
There were 5 forwards with 0 goals for the Leafs in the playoffs that played all games. Robertson played 3 with the lowest TOI of anyone in those games and wasn't one of the 5.
Leafs keep doing this.

Feels like McMann is just a kid, but he's 29. He's provided decent 3rd line production - but shouldn't be guaranteed anything.

All sorts of borderline crap on bad contracts extracted some value this summer. Theres no point in dumping kampfkrok for nothing right now. The leafs don’t need the cap space and it’s not like we are bursting with young depth who need roster spots.

And if the leafs need the cap space they can easily be dumped.

This world, for many years on this board when we had habs fans telling us that we can't win.

We're just pointing out when people speak out of both sides of their mouth, that's all.
Nothing has changed. You still cant win. But not because you let Marner go. Because you let him go and have, so far, not bothered even trying to adequately replace him. From games 1-82 Marner was an asset. From game 83 onward, a liability. You don't really need to replace regular season Marner because you still have 34, 88, and 91. But like Marner, 34 is also a playoff dog (not as bad as Marner was, but still not great) You need him to step up or acquire someone who will.

But really what you need is a top 4 defenseman.

Find someone who can produce half decently in the postseason and you'll forget all about Mitch.
