2025 Canes Training Camp Thread

Yeah, Chatfield is back but Kochetkov is out again. Something's up with that boy but nobody seems to be talking ... so, nothing new there. Maybe somebody can pry out some info before gametime tomorrow. Or not. Our meager local media not being particularly interested in prying.

The PP units. Maybe Nikishin gets eased in on PP2 at some point, but for now it’s Miller and Walker at the points.

PP1: Aho, Ehlers, Jarvis, and Svechnikov with Gostisbehere
PP2: Blake, Hall, and Stankoven with Miller and Walker

Bussi is a Freddie tweak away from being a #1 NHL starting goalie. I bet he didn't expect that when he signed a UFA deal with Florida.

When I did it earlier, it was right below the link for “Access Your Tickets”. But it’s not there now.

The uniform schedule is out. Black jerseys at home again. Whalers night is January 29 against Utah.
Thanks, Andy. Checked again today and STM Discount link is there. Wonder why the delay?

All jokes aside this needs to be cleaned up and sorted out. Spencer Martin was scary but throwing a zero nhl games played guy that close to the fire is insane. There has to be a safer option to consider with nhl experience …Reimer? Husso with the Ducks eating a portion of that salary?

That's why I was surprised that we didn't do anything to address our obvious goalie problem. I know the choices weren't great, but Freddie is perpetually hurt and Kochetkov gets his share of injuries.

OK, but they DID do something to address the problem and you guys are making it sound like keeping a 3rd goalie with solid NHL experience on the roster (in the minors) is somehow simple. It ain't. Carolina went out a signed a very good option in Primeau and a backup plan in Miftakhov but sadly enough the Russian guy looks to be a bust. Decent 3rd goalies get claimed on waivers out of camp all the time because there's not enough of them to go around. If the NHL would allow one free waiver for a goaltender with less than say 75 games of NHL experience, then yeah ... it's pretty easy to hang onto a Primeau or a Bussi. Florida wanted Bussi to be their 3rd option this season but instead he's ours and they have two guys I'd bet none of us have ever heard of in Charlotte for their 3rd G.

So yeah ... I wish it had gone different but it didn't and at least they ended up with a promising young goaltender who has been very good in the AHL and was very good in college before that. As for Reimer or Husso, you'd still be carrying three goalies because you aren't getting either one of them through waivers either.

Now, if you meant not running back Andersen/Kochetkov, then yeah. 100%. I was looking for that to change two freaking years ago.

Yup, that's what I meant. A 3rd goalie isn't my biggest concern - unless we need him to be our #1 goalie.

At the end of the day, maybe the price they pay for keeping their goalie tandem intact even with their sketchy injury history is that Dundon has to waste a bunch of money keeping a 3rd goalie with the big club. If so, he kind of deserves it.
