2025 Canes Training Camp Thread

In regards to Primeau, Philly has Ersson and Vladar in net...if any team out there is so strapped in net that it may be worth taking a "Flyer" on (pardon the pun), it's the Flyers...
 
So, basically the Canes are in the same position they were in two days ago except they have swapped Primeau for Bussi (both accomplished AHL goalies) and are kind of stuck with Bussi on the roster right now. So, you carry three goalies for a bit, let everybody's roster decisions settle in and then try to sneak him through waivers later on.

BTW, Toronto has similar issues so Primeau might be in play again at some point pretty soon.
 
Bussi might play a heck of a lot less than he might have expected, but he gets to draw an NHL salary for a period of time.
 
And again ... Kochetkov was beat up in camp and Freddie is Freddie. For all we know, they actually need him in Raleigh for a while.
 
I mean, we tried to give it a go with Primeau as the #3. That was a good idea save for the fact that he's actually pretty good and other teams want him as well.

Bussi at least has plenty of North American pro experience, but it's been quite a while since we started a season with our #3 goalie having zero NHL regular season experience. Not one minute of it. Alex Nedeljkovic wasn't our #3 when the season he played his first NHL game began. Neither was Kochetkov. Maybe Justin Peters in 2009-10?

It's kind of a mess that we have reached this point considering how fragile Freddie and Kochetkov are, but this is a consequence of our complete lack of any quality goalie prospect after Kochetkov. We finally invested in the position again this past draft, but that isn't going to help us for years.
 
There are quite a few journeyman and not quite NHL guys that were either just on waivers or still out there…Sogard, Daws, Kahkonen, Reimer etc…Bussi I guess was targeted over any of those other guys…now Joseph Woll at any time could return to the Leafs and have Primeau right back on waivers to the Canes.
 
Wouldn't it be fun to have KK's money to play with too? That is an awfully expensive pressbox seat. I keep hoping he'll have a breakout season, but it seems like I always hope for that along with world peace. There has to be a trading partner out there somewhere. Trouble is that everybody else has seen him in action.

I saw some reporting that changing waiver rules for goalies was something that was discussed in the most recent CBA negotiations and will definitely be on the table for the next cycle. Some Governors have been asking for a 3 goalie presumption given the number of goaltender injuries and how poor a job the NHL does in protecting those guys. You'd want to carry 2 goalies but not have to deal with waivers for a designated third G, but the contract issues got complicated at that point. The PA would want them to be on NHL salaries whether or not they were playing in the minors.

All this of course, stems from Carolina's long term ineptitude at drafting goalies, and we've talked that to death. There's always a price to be paid for drafting poorly. This is such a case.

I'm not so sure Kotkaniemi is permanently in the press box or just there until his face heals up to the point that he can play without a bubble.

Agree, I think Jankowski replaces him in the press box. But it’s almost criminal to be paying that much scratch to your 4C. He clearly hasn’t earned RBAs trust to move up and stay there.
 
And hey ... how many teams have a former number one overall draft pick and a former number three overall on their 4th line?
 
Optimistic about this lineup, but with Miller not playing during the preseason is concerning, especially for a defenseman playing with a new team. Also, we seem to be stuck in goaltending Purgatory, and I have no idea how that will work out this season.
 
Yeah, I really, really wanted to see them shake up that goaltending tandem. Oh well. At least they probably won't get worse at that position.
 
Heads up for STMs if you don't catch that email from today. They have updated the QR code for the concession/merch discount to be dynamic and will be requiring you access it via the Canes app. I did try saving it to my Google wallet and it becomes static there so I'm not sure that will work anymore.

I know that I have shared my QR code with my family via screen shots in the past just to make things easier. Sounds like that will be a no go starting this season.

Another self-inflicted clusterf**k in the making from the braintrust at Edwards Mill.. so my wife can't go to the concessions without me? My friend who splits my STM 50-50 can't use the benefit when he has our game tickets? I hope this is not what it sounds like in the email.

It's really amazing what they're willing to make fans do in order to make a few extra dollars.
