Yes. Based on our current PP dilemma, I think putting Staal in the mix isn't a bad idea. I worry about him taking more ice time, since he's not getting any younger and is most needed on the PK, but I think his FO success and his ability to put his big body in front of the net makes this worth a shot.
It seems like he has a reputation. I’ve seen him kicked out many times when he did nothing wrong to the untrained eye, instead the infringement was on the other center.

KK is the King, but Aho does get tossed a lot. He's kind of notorious for jumping the drop so he engages early a lot. And let's face it, the fast twitch hands guys get booted more than the head-butt the other dude and plow the thing out of the circle guys like Staal (and Brind'Amour)

Nope ... or only situationally ... for the reason you cited. He's OLD, people, and the Canes need him on the PK way more than he'd help on the PP.
The now retired Jean Morin was the worst. And that was under the less stringent rules.
In both Morin and Murray's case, the issue is that imperious a-holes want to flout their authority, no matter how strict the rules.
