While his refusal to let his team trade with Tre is the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face, I think we were given an excellent demonstration of why Calgary's owner despises him.

Gotta be one of the most gutless ways I've ever seen a Leaf coach or executive leave the organization.

Yeah for someone that preached all the buzz words like “determination” and “accountability” he literally just walks away a few hours before a game night on a western road swing without even a presser. Even he is embarrassed of his own track record.
 
The 3rd and 4th last place teams are on pace for 77-78 points. The Leafs had every opportunity to beat that coming out of the Olympic break. Every opportunity. And more incentive to do it than every other team combined.

Now the best we can hope for is 5th last and a ~42% chance at the lottery. This was a self inflicted own goal. No excuses.

Yeah the next two 1sts would be unprotected (Boston & Philly) I believe. If they forfeit the pick this year I think next year is top-10 protected?

the only caveat is that some of these nerds are perma nerds and they don't want to be a GM which is public facing gig that includes facing the media, and also a leadership gig that has to constantly manage a small army of personalities
 
Ya i mean it’s easy to just go hire nerds but you need to be decisive, be ok upending people’s lives, be able to negotiate, manage people upwards and downwards and manage the media.

But if your the leafs and your favored nerd can’t do that …. Pay the best nerds to be nerds

Fla has fared well with their nerd playing second in command.

I'm good with hiring all the smart nerds as long as they're actually used. Don't care much about their job titles.

Not too many of the nerds out there are professional level poker players and derivatives traders either though.
