OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Ackshually, I'm wrong. An Orlando win here would force a 3 way tie, which Atlanta wins because they would be the division winner. The 3 way tie would be decided by that apparently, instead of us trumping Atlanta because of H2H record.

We don't have 5th yes, and Boston is currently choking this one away.

Magic started Bane so he could have his 82 games (they made a big deal of this pre-game), then sat him after 6 minutes because I guess they thought they'd beat the Celtics scrubs easily. They brought him back in the 4th Q but well...Whoops

Raps are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2022…

These last four years flew by quickly….

I can’t wait to enjoy raptors Playoff basketball again. Fans in Jurassic park just outside the scotiabank arena/ACC will be wild in game 3!

When it comes to the Cavs-we have a chance to beat them. they don't have a big man scorer and they don't have strong defensive wings to stop BI/scottie unlike the knicks.

The x factor in this series may come down to the PG's - harden vs. IQ. Harden is older and flabbier but Quick is injured though.

I dont think this Raps team is going far, but playoff experience for an inexperience team will be quite valuable. Plus it is a great tool to see where the Raps need to improve.

Reasons why the Knicks are a bad matchup for us:

The Knicks are:

7th in transition points allowed per game

6th lowest in turnovers

3rd lowest in rim attempt frequency

4th lowest in opponent offensive reb%

We usually score in transition. Toronto is one of the best teams in the league at breakout offense. The Knicks with their roster personel know how limit those opportunities. We like to force turnovers. The Knicks don’t turn the ball over much. Our starting lineup has a good offensive rating in part because of 2nd chance points. The Knicks don’t give up many offensive rebounds to other teams. They have elite rim protectors Josh hart and Mitchell Robinson scooping all these boards Around the rim denying opposing teams second scoring chances. And the knicks will eat Jakob and mamu alive in the paint/post and on the glass, they are also one of the teams that draw the most fouls by going hard to the rim so expect them to see them at the free throw line often.

The Knicks are good at stopping the things we do well on offense. And this doesn’t even factor in that turnovers and transition drops by about 5% in general in the playoffs. Knicks are also a more experienced, grittier and physical team than us. They are also a very good perimeter defensive team.

There’s a reason we’ve struggled against the Knicks this year.

If we want to beat them, we have to outshoot them and win with the three. But we are one of the worst teams at three point shooting this season.

I'm so glad we avoided NYK. This Cavs series is a reset as we haven't played them since they got harden. Last we played them was back in November. Let's see what we can do though!

we need revenge on Cleveland. Lebron or no Lebron.

these lebronto series losses last decade were so painful and humiliating, especially the 2018 one.

Both are bad matchups for us, because they're just flat out better than us, but I still hold that the Knicks are a uniquely shit matchup for us. 0-5, we didn't score more than 101 in any of the games, and didn't give up fewer than 111 in any of the 5.

Average score across the 5 games was 115-95. Every game was a blowout, none of them were close. We were held to eFG%'s below .500 in 3 of them, while the Knicks put up a .600 or better in 3 of them. I watched most of all 5 games and aside from a few 1st half runs, we just weren't competitive against them at all. I have thoughts as to why, but regardless of why, it's just the truth.

Against Cleveland I don't like our chances of Spider and Harden going cold throughout the entire series (Spider specifically is traditionally better in the playoffs than in the regular season) but they're both volume scorers and I like our odds of stealing a few games if those two combine to shoot 10-40 or some shit, and Merrill, Ellis, Strus, and Wade prove to be whatever combination of too slow or too small to deal with Scottie, Ingram, & RJ.

Imagine Barnes going up against Mitch/OG/Mikal/Hart + KAT who can both attack him on the offensive end and shut him down on the defensive end, or see him playing against Allen/Mobley + smaller FC who are lesser versatile both on offense and defense. Cavs also lack the size/grit/physicality of the Knicks.
It will be tough but I can hope for an upset, against nyk I would be hopeless, I wouldn’t have been bothered to watch the series.
