The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

The ol' Kessel trade argument. Except burke tried to turn a shit team into a good team, and they were still shit. Tre already had a good team, that he likely overvalued last year after being mostly average and getting lucky. Plus he actively made them worse with each and every move.

Sometimes being a gm requires some honest introspection about how good your team is and how capable you are to improve it.

Honestly a basic ass move like firing berube early this year, and I bet their pick is closer to 10-15.

Don’t forget that Burke’s plan included signing the twins. That one ( two) move might have changed everything

he had the best winger and dman available at the deadline and couldn’t make a deal for the dman and traded the winger as the bell was ringing for half of what similar players got.

That was after losing his second best player as a ufa and last years deadline debacle.

The incompetence was stunning.

And we had a blueprint for it from his time in cgy.

I honestly believe that if they’d fired Berube in late November, this team makes the playoffs.

They should have fired him with marc Savard back in late december.

They both missed this year because of injuries but the Panthers and Capitals Will be back in the playoffs stronger than ever, flyers/sens/pens/ Will be in the mix, the bruins despite their lack of high-end talent aside from pasta will continue to be consistently competitive, the Hurricanes, Lightning and the Habs will be as good next year. And if the Devils get lucky, stay healthy and avoid injuries- they Will make the playoffs.

The Sabres Will regress but will still make the playoffs, the red wings, Islanders and Blue jackets Will still fight for a playoff spot. The Leafs will have serious competition around them for a playoff berth next season. The East will probably be a warzone in 2026-27

Rangers will struggle at least but looks like the Leafs will join them next year

The only way i'd be worried about him coming back is if Armstrong is hired.

Its interesting, last go around they operated too fast and only interviewed Tre and Bergevin.

Now that they are taking their time, they possibly let the best guy slip through their fingers in Mehta

Mehta is likely great but I don't think any single nerd is special. More important is that they have a highly capable analytics department and that they're used for every decision they make.

And honestly I think a guy like Gillis can run a train on the media here. Not convinced some dweeb with a calculator can do the same. Some can, maybe a lawyer like dellow can, but it's part of the job description and it's not for everyone.

I think Gillis would be a great get, i agree

It's very possible that Mehta was always headed to NJ and he never really considered the TO position. It is funny though how quicky NJ moved after the TO-Mehta rumours started circulating.

The Leafs (Shanny) rushed into hiring the moron and now they're gunshy about "moving too fast". It's incredible how inept the org is.

No way do I believe that. Outside maybe a handful of shitty veteran plugs, no way that this team isn’t desperate to see him go.

I worry that Pelley wants him back though, the longer we go without him being fired.

Everyone on the team with any talent at all has already fired subtle shots at him over the last few days. He's toast.

He built the algo that uncovered Jesper Bratt as a top 5 pick...when nobody else who Jesper was

Yeah, I'm kind of blown away by that. I posted Bratt's pre draft numbers in the other thread. They're...not pedestrian, but hardly standout on the surface. His J-20 numbers at 16 were good, similar to Filip Forsberg, Andre Burakovsky, Vrana...but higher than Fiala & Pastrnak. Way way lower than Willy & Lucas Raymond though.
