Im not sure i'd call Sosa solid, but he's a RHH and an INF.

They need these RHH bench guys to start hitting or get replaced
 
Yesavage seems to get ahead 0-2 on just about every hitter, but then needs like 4 more pitches to close out the AB. If he can just get a bit more to get that closeout pitch earlier in the AB, would save a lot of stress on him.
 
Heineman was always trash. He killed me the night of the 18 inning game. It felt like he had three different chances to win it but couldn’t do shit at the plate. This season he even looks like shit defensively.

Valenzuela looks great on both fronts.
 
Heineman was the best backup catcher in baseball last year. But obviously a fluke year at 34.

Valenzuela's a great fielder too but i wouldn't expect him to hit like you want from a starter. But should be a real good backup.

Then again we're spoiled to have a catcher like Kirk who's a very good hitter and an elite glove. Not many of those around.
 
Even with all the injuries the Jays pitching staff ranks #1 in mlb with 87xfip-, and #4 with an 86fip-.

So far the 96era- is lagging those numbers but still good for #12 mlb. Especially with a bit more health that should continue to catch up with the other numbers.
 
I mean Kirk was the second-best catcher last year. With Valenzuela's big game today, he is basically a league-average bat right now. Pair that with his elite defence, and yeah, you have a starting catcher.

Just maybe not a high-end starting catcher.
