The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Selling off the entire roster this summer would suck because you're selling low on everyone and I truly believe Berube and Treliving absolutely torched the entire rosters trade value; you saw it with roy, Laughton, mcmann turn into new players as soon as they got traded. The depth pieces aren't elite or anything, but they aren't as bad as they seemed!

exactly...when the Avs traded a first for Roy, my first thought was wow, that was rich. Then I saw him in the playoffs, and suddenly the trade made sense. Solid 3rd liner who can do a bit of everything

no I meant packaging a support player to move up into the first round
The specific example doesn't matter if you're on board with the position that half of the trades you see are usually overtly stupid for one of the teams right out of the gate.

You pursue 10-20 outlier outcomes at any given time, and I promise you at least one of them will happen for you, if you're smart about what you're doing and who/what you've targeted.

This isn't hockey trade theory. This is life advice based on my own experiences.
Agreed that it’s certainly not hockey trade theory

It was fair. A mid first would've been an overpay, but the latest first was basically a second and just fine.

During the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the Washington Capitals traded their 26th overall pick to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Troy Brouwer.

I must admit I like LOFs idea of spamming every GM's inbox with 100s of inane trade ideas every day. Probably get blocked by every GM eventually but all you need is a few hits and you're planning the parade.

Didn't work for Tre. Maybe he needed to dig in a bit more on the spamming.

TLDR

- I've done a lot of reflecting, but not enough to give an intelligent answer
- With that said, we can debate style of play "a little bit"
- I take full responsibility, but with that said, it's the players fault for not "buying in".
And he takes no responsibility for acquiring or keeping the players that he implies are trash pieces of shit that you can't win with.

Great interview!

It sure sounded like he was describing lack of puck possession there and ODog was nodding along like he didn’t just shit all over that yesterday.
