McDavid strikes me as the guy to not get involved and say no to something like this, but will use it as ammunition to say he's leaving when it doesn't work.

FWIW maybe nothing, Oilers reporter Bob Stauffer was on the fan today saying he expects McDavid to extend for 7 years.

(I dunno a lot can go wrong/change before he’s able to resign imo)

Bob is the worst but that is the expectation from most of the media out here.
 
Something needs to be done about this NMC abuse. If it were me, I’d tell them to pound sand, show up for camp or get suspended without pay for holding out. If you want out then you go to the highest bidder. Fuck you and your agent.

But that’s just me.

Abuse by who?

The player's are not abusing it. This is the specific thing they are designed for.

Now make them void if you request a trade? Sure but I'm not sure how that can technically work. Official trade request? In writing, verbal, through agent?

I also doubt any of these players will not show up for camp if not traded.

ie.
Larkin may have planned to stay his entire career in Detroit. He got disgruntled at last year's deadline when Yzerman added nothing
Hughes might have stayed in Vancouver if the ship wasn't sinking

Right now the Habs have a ton of talent signed to discounts. Everyone is tickled pink.

But what if the team is in shambles 3-4 yrs from now? I can see the today's happy campers scream "get me the fuck out of here"

I honestly expect him to re-sign there too, no matter how much of a flaming shit-pile they are in the year before he’s eligible to sign an extension.

After he signed that dumbass two-year extension instead of just playing out his deal, I’m just not prepared to invest any more hope in him leaving there to come here.
