I mean NMC are part of the problem, but really all any player has to do is announce that they do not intend to sign another contract and management has to start considering whether to move them or not.

My first instinct was to say that if any player with a NMC demands a trade, that their trade protection is immediately voided. But again, a player just has to threaten not to sign an extension, and you have the same scenario.

Well, the ones currently weaponizing them won’t. They already got theirs.

He's a fringe top 10 LW.

He plays a nice possession dominant game and is a valuable player, but one of my core issues with all of this is what people are valuing Brady as. Cracked 80 points once, cracked 70 a single additional time in 8 years in the league. 12th in points by a LW over the last 3 seasons combined, 14th in PPG. He also appears to be an immature, somewhat insufferable douchebag (so yeah, a Tkachuk)

0 points in a sweep by Carolina this year. Could you imagine the level of bullshit that would be thrown at Matthews if he put up 0 points in a playoff series? He's in a tier of LW with Raymond, old Ovechkin, Ehler, & Hyman. Ottawa just got a near superstar package of futures for not a near superstar player.

Yeah, he was looking like he was going to be an absolute beast for a while... then I think he started buying into his own hype and lost that hunger. Maybe it comes back in Florida.

This is an opportunity to get another maybe elite young defender who was meh last year and makes a fuckton of money. Big swing for the fences that Stevie should make.

Ottawa did the right thing here, when a player is pushing their way out don't be too cute about it, get the most value that you can, & don't be afraid to take a risk.

They need to do something. This is just silly. I'd like to see them gone altogether, but that's unlikely, so... maybe some variations of these ideas?
