2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

GMs and Owners counting down the days until the 2026-27 season officially opens and the contract max terms drop from 8 and 7 to 7 and 6.

Nashville is looking to build a whole ex-Colorado 3rd line. Chris McFarlane apparently has some favorite players....

Given that Nashville was 20th in the NHL in goals last season, adding Ross Colton (9 goals) and Jack Drury (10 goals) is a choice.... Jack Drury will help with faceoffs.

Together they give you a quality 4th line who can kill half your penalties and both can play spot duty up the lineup if needed. That’s solid business even if it’s on the back end of the lineup.

That’s definitely a factor in goosing the trade market. As is the continued Cap expansion and the lack of a UFA pool. And if you were planning to move a draft pick on Friday anyway, why do it in the middle of all that chaos when you can do it now?

And I do think Benson will play up to that contract. It’s not about that, it’s just that Carolina has those two very similar forwards locked in to long term deals with absolutely ridiculous value.

The Panthers picked up another knuckle dragger. They sent a 2026 5th rounder and a 2027 4th rounder to the Flyers for Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 6th rounder. The Flyers retained 50%

Jesus they do have an archetype don't they?

Seriously, getting Hathaway probably spells the end of AJ Greer’s time with the Panthers. Whatever Cap money they have left HAS to be earmarked for the goalies at this point. Greer, Kunin, Hinostroza and Nosek are out of luck. Greer shouldn’t have any trouble getting a job. He’s coming off of a 32 point season and had a positive expected goal share on a team that was terrible defensively.

But if they keep not getting called on their bullshit, they won't have to worry about the PK situation.
At some point it becomes more/significantly more bullshit than hockey. Seems like the league would need to insist on the calls. Otherwise the game can go to huge guys with no talent and no brains bashing each other - as the whole point - until the other team it too beat up to play. Seems like Mo would like that.
