OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

The most fun spot is Minnesota, just cause, that base would go nuts with a title.

Golden State is the, play with Steph, have fun, whatever happens happens location

Cleveland is the bookend saga place

Denver is as cool as Minny minus the need for a ship

Philly is probably the objctive best spot to title chase, joining Brown/Embiid/VJ and decent depth.

Miami is where i assume he's the most hated? and still not a major contender?

I haven't done by Crafted BPM breakdown on the west, but if Lebron went to the eastern teams you mentioned:

- Cleveland goes from 2nd at +13.9 to potentially as high as 16.0, but still in 2nd. But it's the fit there that I don't get. You can slot him into the 3 for a really nice looking starting 5 on paper, but the defence would be atrocious outside of the paint.

- He fits pretty nicely into Philly's starting 5 and they would jump from a 7.7 to about a 10.2. Which would bring them from 8th in the east where they currently sit to 5th.

- Similarly I struggle to see the fit in Miami with Giannis already at the 4. Depending on how you shift the pieces around to play him at the 3 though, they would go from 8.6 to about 11.0. 7th to 5th.

I think Lebron makes whichever team he goes to more dangerous in a short series where he can ramp up his game and be a real difference maker over a short period of time. But we're past the point where he's a huge needle mover in the regular season, and outside of a round or two, I don't even know how much he can be counted on to take a team that isn't a contender and make them one.

Honestly, he should go to Minny or Denver where they're both probably already on the cusp and he can bring them close enough to parity against SAS or OKC.

Fwiw, I think Jonas is probably right that it's the 2nds that will get peeled off, and maybe the swap. I'd be surprised if either 1st comes back to us unless it's a full year suspension. Something like a 20-40 game probably doesn't change the calculus of the deal enough for either of the 1sts to come back.
Both of the 2nds staying with them and one of the 1sts coming back would feel right to me.

I also don't really care too much about the suspension length, as long as Kawhi is close to or in game shape when he returns.

But I want LA to get hit so fucking hard that they have to relocate to another city. Part of the penalty at minimum should be that they forfeit whatever picks we give them. And if they're anticipating something like that, they should give us something back before it happens.

Lebron with Ball, Ant, McDaniels and Rudy, just feels like so much fun to me.

Same with Murray, Jokic and if they keep Watson

There is zero chance IMO we get a 1 back.

I think Clippers balk at the ask and rightfully so, and both teams want this resolved fast.

Frankly I'd be surprised if there's any change to the deal if his suspension is 40 or less.
Same, if its true there is a tax break and Toronto can add more FA on vet minimums, thats a bonus in and of itself and both teams know this. Just get the deal finalized and let both teams go about their offseasons.

Toronto is in no real danger of being out of the top 6 ( IMO) if Kawhi misses half a season and even if they are, this deal isnt designed for year 1 only. Just get it done, or maybe ask for the swap/2nds back and see what happens. Neither team really has leverage over the other here to any great degree.

This isn't about the trade though, so our picks as part of the deal won't play into this at all. These will all be administrative penalties for breach of the CBA and while we're kind of the aggrieved party, Kawhi was a free agent at the time so we wouldn't get any compensation. The tampering was obvious, but has been investigated and the NBA is flat out horrible at bringing penalties for tampering, the Clippers were cleared of all wrongdoing despite their GM following us like a fucking tour groupie all year.

This investigation has a pretty narrow scope. Did the Clippers and Kawhi use a no show endorsement contract with a tree planting company to get around the salary cap to pay Kawhi more money? On the surface it sure looks like it, but you have to be able to prove that shit. If they do prove it, the penalties will all be administrative and what type of penalties they have levy are already laid out in the CBA. Fines, forfeit of draft picks (team's allotted picks, not picks that were traded for/acquired), suspensions up to an including outright bans from the league for the individuals involved.

Yeah.

If there are any penalties at all, I'm expecting Kawhi to get a 20 game suspension (the total dollars lost to that suspension would be about the same as the amount he made with Aspiration I think). The deal stays the exact same and our Fun Guy takes 6 weeks off in the part of the season we give next to zero fucks about this year. We add a few min vets (Demar pls) and Demar gets a run at replacing Ingram in starting lineup (which I think he can do pretty seamlessly over the short to medium term). Kawhi comes back in December and we start wrecking shit.

Demar or even give a deep look to Walter after giving him his golden flaming bin award for winning the bum fight.

I’ve heard Thybulle described as a 3 and D guy who could be special if someone taught him how to play basketball.

Batum and JV intrigue me as well

Batum obviously if he wanted to follow Kawhi, but I assume that we got Slo Mo to do Batum things. They're not the same thing, but they're kind of the same thing. Old, slow plus defenders with plus bbiq but with Batum being a more willing & dangerous shooter.

I like the JV idea, but I actually like the Suns rumour with the bouncy kid for TJD and picks better.

How about Nick Richards just to make Zeke go insane?

Ive heard they legit like this Bittle character and this 7 foot 5 G league monster as well, so they might just go internal

Randos should never be expected to be contributors. Should always come as a welcomed surprise, but you should never be risking playoff seedings on a G League level rando who is intriguing to your scouting staff. You bring those guys in, give them big G League minutes and if they're good at that, some NBA back of the bench opportunity. If they kick the door in, great. If not, no worries.

Is Tyler Herro a dude we would package salary and our remaining picks for mid season?

Or is he the kind of guy that just isnt us?

Other midseason names i can see moved include Murphy 3, Davis, Sabonis, Lavine, Turner, Giddey,
