OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

The Vladdy thing alone is baffling. If he's injured, why are they playing him? If he's not injured, what the fuck happened to him? They were saying at the start of the season that having such a long prior season and then playing in that world classic tournie at the start of the season was just too much baseball and wore him out. Hard to buy it all that much, but I wish we'd know how he'd look right now if he skipped that tournie.

I think it was said that he is having back problems.

I would be tempted to give a bag to Trent Grisham in the offseason, and sign Ward/Happ/Suzuki for a corner.

If the Mets are interested in dumping Lindorfor or the Angels/Astros/Nats want hauls for Neto/Peña/Abrams I’d be all over it. Gimenez is a boat anchor

Ideally you replace Santander too but considering you need at least 2SP you probably can’t do everything and you have a glut of LHH corner OF with no gloves that can be a bum fight DH insurance, plus Keys

No on Grisham for me, but a yes on Suzuki. He's the most appealing looking OF FA to me. I'm fine with assuming Barger is healthy and giving Lukes the 4th OF role (assuming Barger is healthy and still has his arm). He's fine in spot duty in CF. I don't even hate keeping Varsho around as long as the deal isn't shit.

Lindor would be interesting if we're willing to make the financial gamble on him. His struggles this year look like Babip/Mets Vibes and he can still field the position for at least another year or two before he gets moved to 2B.

Fwiw, I don't think we need 2 starters (assuming we keep Gausman), just 1. I'm probably irrationally high on Ponce though but also that I think we're starting to roll enough young pitching with some upside into AA-AAA that we can reasonably expect some help from down there next year. Ricky, Perry, Stanifer, Bloss, King etc.

Sure sucks balls when your team sucks and you can't even blame management. Sports fans need someone to blame at all times, but this just seems like a bizarre, unlucky set of circumstances more than anything.

They Jays aren't unique. Plenty of instances of teams going to the finals and/or winning a championship and then crashing out the next year for a variety of reasons, a lot of them just luck & injury related. The Florida Panthers were that exact team in the NHL this season.

As for Vladdy, I think the solution is obviously that he needs to get fat again. He Kadri'd himself. Get to Harvey's, my son.

I'd be counting on Gausman as one of the 2, but at his age depending on his ask, i might pass.

I dont love Grisham for me, but Varsho is currenly our only CF on the roster or close in the minors. I might honestly keep him and give him a QO, cause he kinda is okay if everyone else doesnt suck. FA offers nothing in terms of CF other than Grisham.

I do wonder if Lukes can do it?, Seiya/Barger/Ward are all corners

Worst hitters in jays history, minimum 500pa:

1. D.Ainge 721pa, 43wrc+
2. L.Gomez 640pa, 47wrc+
3. D.McKay 999pa, 50wrc+
4. T.Perez 583pa, 57wrc+
5. B.Drury 525pa, 57wrc+
6. D.Cedeno 645pa, 59wrc+
7. J.MacDonald 1453pa, 60wrc+
8. A.Griffin 3655pa, 62wrc+
9. R.Goins 1397pa, 64wrc+
10. R.Cerrone 931pa, 64wrc+

11. A.Gimenez 694pa, 71wrc+
11. G.Iorg 2615pa, 71wrc+
11. D.Schofield 501pa, 71wrc+
11. R.Bosetti 1522pa, 71wrc+

Thing is i'm pretty sure that Gimenez is the only one there that's been used as an everyday starter for that entire sample.

We will have to go out and trade for a CF in the offseason as I think the FA crop is pretty weak, not opposed to re-signing Varsho if the deal is reasonable. Very little interest in Grisham.

Lukes is fine as a backup CF imo. Go and get a AAAA guy to play in Buffalo if you're that worried about it. Straw was lovely last year, but paying him real money and holding a full time roster spot to be a replacement level player because something something CF is dumb imo.

They have a blind spot for GImenez and his salary goes from 17-23 this year.

He's an elite defensive 2B, very good defnsive SS, that cannot fucking hit.

You can be okay with him as a 9 hitter if everyone else is hitting, but he's a black hole.

Right but who's the starter if we trade Varsho?

Also, we could sign Jazz and shift Ernie to 2B

If you dont trade him offer him the QO at 1/23 or whatever, he kinda has to take that, and if he dosnt take the comp pick

Is Jay Harry anything? Supposedly he plays CF along with SS.
Damn, he is having a great year offensively in both AA and AAA, no idea about the defense though. Still didn't make Baseball America's Top 30 for the Jays which is surprising, but he was pretty mediocre the last 2 years...

Rotowire: Harry could be the next prospect in the Blue Jays' system in line for a promotion to the majors, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. (7/21/2026)

Analysis
Acquired from the Twins in a 2024 trade for reliever Trevor Richards, Harry has had a breakout campaign after some offseason swing adjustments, slashing .316/.362/.560 with 13 homers and 15 steals across 75 games between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo. The 24-year-old's biggest selling point is his defensive versatility, however -- he's played both second base and shortstop this season in addition to all three outfield spots, and he has some experience at third base as well. If the Jays are sellers at the trade deadline, it could open up a spot on the 26-man roster for Harry to make his big-league debut and get a look in the super-utility role Ernie Clement previously thrived in.
