OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

And also...Bateman is fucking amazing, or what is going on here?

I'm still as bullish on the profile as you can be on someone with minimal power, and I'm happy that he's having an impact but I'm worried about his underlying numbers. Low line drive rate, low EV. For his stick to survive at this level I think we need to see that improve, as well as that BB rate up a few %, the babip gods aren't going to favour him forever.

If he can be a cheap 2 win CF while he's under team control, its a win.

They still need to add at least one bat either in a corner OF, with Barger/Lukes moving to a bench role, or 2B ( sign Lowe?) and Clement moving to super utility playing 5/7.

Or punt Santander into the sun and fill the DH spot with an upgrade.

It’s so weird that you don’t want Clement, Barger, and to a lesser degree, Lukes, as everyday guys. They’re all great. So odd.

Yeah, his glove seems good enough to play even if this is what he is, the babip luck levels off and he's a 85-90wRC+ guy on slap and run alone.

Its even odder that you dont seem to understand where the places are that this team can reasonably find upgrades.

Unless there is a massive trade i cant see ( and we probably cant afford) there isnt one at CF

We are probably financially locked into Gimenez at SS, and likewise probably cant afford a big upgrade via trade

1B. 3B. C, are locked in. DH might be locked in financially, but yeah you might be able to do something there if you eat on Santander but you cant simply push him to the bench, he's useless there.

Lukes and Barger are really nice players, but neither one should start be LHP, and much like Clement you can move any of them to the bench and make them 5/7 week players.

Getting an offensive upgrade in the corner is quite doable with Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Trent Grisham, and Randy Arozarena ( please him) all FA nd thre are always corner OF to be had in trades.

At 2B you could give a hard look to Lowe, or Jazz ( but probably not) and Ketel Marte is assuredly done n Zona.

If yuo arent interested in upgrades at those positions then you are marrying yourself to running it back with this group and blaming this season on some combination of injuries and bad luck. I think thats silly.

The bench also needs a massive overhaul.

You cant be using Myles Straw as a PH ever, let alone lead your team in them. Valenzuela is the backup C unless he's moved for an upgrade elsewhere. McAdoo, Schneider, Urias will probably all audition to be the RHH super utility, and they need either Straw back cheaper or a RHH CF friend for Bateman elsewhere

The easiest way to make the bench better is to upgrade on Barger/Lukes/Clement and make those guys super subs.

Barger in particular can still play everyday vs RHP if you want him too. Either in RF or at 3B if you want to sit Okamoto.

Clement is one of the best hitters in the league and very good defensively, and was a 3.5 and 4.3 war guy the prior two seasons. This year means next to nothing with the injuries and Fake Vladdy killing the lineup.

Barger is a 100 rbi guy if he comes back without missing a beat after a year off.

Lukes is a super elite 4OF, but I don’t mind him playing regularly one bit.

I can only explain it so many ways, you do you.

Clement has a sub 700 OPS, and his defense has taken a dive
Who cares about RBI, and also, no he isnt.
Spot on about Lukes, but he's still in a spot where an upgrade can be made

Clement is one of the best hitters in the league? Am I losing my mind? Dude has put up a 97wRC+ (that is 3 % below average). Yeah, he makes contact with the ball, but his .283 average is cancelled out by his 3.5% walk rate, so he has a .308 obp.

Barger is a 100 rbi guy if he comes back without missing a beat after a year off.

1993 called and wants their reference back. Plus, RBIs are a team stat.

I will agree with you that Lukes gives you great corner OF defense. But typically you want some slug to go with it. Currently, Lukes has a 96wRC+.

I guess Clement and Lukes are great bench players, but can we upgrade on 1.5 WAR guys please?

Almost top 20 in batting average, 6th in hits, 7th in doubles. Yes he doesn’t walk enough and doesn’t have power, but Clement is a very good hitter.

Here's how the combined Steamer/Zips projections see them going forward in the immediate future:

tbh i think we're in a good spot to make some kind of bulk for impact player type trade. There's just a lot of guys here who deserve mlb playing time but likely aren't much more than average.

He's a perfectly fine starter, but his spot is not locked in, and he can also move to the bench and still play 5/7

If you dont think they need offensive upgrades, just say so.

Clement I really have no trouble with, he's more than fine. Lukes would be nice to be more of an OF4, someone to play a decent chunk, and who you have absolutely no problem filling in in case of injury. But would be nice to have 3 guys better than him.

The other question with the team is if they bring back Springer, or go with more of a rotating DH, or bring in another fulltime guy. Might not be the worst to go more of a rotating spot, and that might naturally give more runway for guys to share AB. But at the same time, DH is a spot you can have a masher, which we do need in the lineup too.

I cant see Springer back

Pretty sure Santander will be the DH
