At this point, between Larkin and Crosby, wouldn't Larkin be the better option going forward (i don't think we'll get either, but just for the sake of talk)

Also, we might be the only contender team that can afford to give McDavid 20M+ going forward....that has a lot of weight for players/agents. McDavid cannot get that from any other contender, they just won't have the cap space, even with the cap going up....unless they trade away key players (which would be another Edmonton scenario for McDavid).

Yes, hold on to assets....play the waiting game

McDavid gets the best of both world.....a true contender roster, solid defense/goaltending, and he gets paid as the best player in the world....i can't be the only one that sees this ?

Still need to sign Bolduc. Apparently it’s expected to be in ~ 3M aav range.

There’s a 50%+ chance that a D is traded. So, unclear about Xhekaj - could well be someone else.

So, not opposed to trading for a suitable vet with an expiring contract prior to Christmas break. Needs to be cheap and off the books next year.

But yah, no trades for the sake of making them.

highly doubt he goes from one media frenzy to a worse one and pressure to win a cup on an aging roster

If its Canada Habs are the only option that nobody can give him

An elite regime , 4-5 year window with very very team friendly contracts in their prime

Habs are way closer to a cup than an aging Leaf team

Plus CMD will be the only player we are paying true market value for years , there are no cap issues unlike others .

Leafs will have CMD , Mathews and probably McKenna to deal with in this new reality

IMO Crosby hands down brings more to what this Habs team “needs”:

- a high end C who will instantly command respect & be able to teach tricks of the trade only a veteran can

+

- ideal contract term for Habs growing team to take next step in their development (develop play consistency + understanding of what it takes to win in playoffs - learn how to shut it down when needed)

Vegas has that attractiveness that makes them able to revamp their roster...guys like Pietrangelo, Marner, Stone, Eichel all asked to go there....they will always be able to attract top talent
