2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Bennett has been lights out amazing all playoffs. Even if he did zero of the physical dirty agitating stuff, his ability to produce has been incredible. He’s worth every dollar he gets.

I think Marchy is likely to leave. Seems like the other two want to stay, so will depend on how much of a Florida discount they’re willing to take, I think.

But they also have Lundell. But they would still need a centre and there are no good ones available…
Lots of chatter about Marchand looking to cash the fuck in this summer. He'll obviously have teams that he won't want to play for, but for the most part the highest bidder is gonna win. He was underpaid for most of his career. Big time. And he knows this.

According to reports, his whole reason for leaving Boston is that they didn't want to pay him more than his $6M.

Back then, made perfect sense. Now, holy fuck this guy I don't know how he does it.

Given how his last deal went (And no, he never gave a discount that's what he was worth at the time), he will take the most money this summer.

Free agency is going to be nuts considering how much cap space teams have and how shallow the player pool is.

I wish they would go to Metcalfe and ask him for a list of undervalued forward around the league they could acquire for midround picks and/or b/c prospects.

They have the cap space to add 2-3 big name players in normal circumstances, but thats probably not going to actually happen. Just like last year when they had to settle for OEL and Lilly over Roy.

The Carlo one you could at least squint and understand why they thought he would help. Rielly needed a friend and Carlo has had that job before, he just happened to look cooked

Laughton was never a C, not an upgrade on what they had and was acquired strictly cause Ontario leaderbean. His salary isnt a problem going forward but might be the most egregious waste of assets under the Shanahan era

Me thinks Foligno was worse than Laughton who was available

I have 0 doubt we could acquire two better players than Carlo and Laughton for 2 1sts, Minten, Grebenkin and $5 mill.

Some guy at the Athletic (or Zeke) should do a deep dive about how it’s the deadline deals (maybe more than the core 4) that’s costing them playoff wins vs opponent GMs who actually kill at the deadline.

Panthers won in 7 games by adding Marchand and Jones.

Tampa did the same by using Hagel and Paul

The problem always is that we have this dynamic core and they never try to add more dynamic players to it. They add these nondescript lumps in some stupid effort to even out the roster. But it’s having more Knies, McManns and Robertsons that would make us better, not safe and boring bottom six and bottom pair guys. How hard is this for them to understand?

Teams have to refrain from dumping first rounders for non impact players

The odd TB move for Gourde and Coleman is very rare that is key for a cup
