2018-19 Miscellaneous News Thread

Both that hit and Khadri's last year SHOULD have gotten then 3 games off, but ... blah, blah, blah playoff games blah, blah, blah. Note ... Khadri DID get three. Poorly worded

Nazem Kadri was offered an in-person hearing for his hit on DeBrusk tonight. That means he could be suspended for 6 or more games. I doubt he gets that many, but I suspect his series is over.

The officiating or lack there of in that game in Boston last night was exhibit A for how truly awful things have gotten. The amount of filthy garbage that was let go all night on both sides was head scratching. When nothing gets called it becomes a free for all in a game like that! The NHL really should admit they have an officiating problem because that’s not “letting them play” that’s just gross incompetence of shit refs. Kadri will get at least 5 to end his series.

Kadri should get 5-10... But as you said the lack of anything getting called led to that situation. The refs lost control cause they didn't call the #$@#$ Rule book. And the stuff they choose to call from it tends to be the ticky tack stuff not the dangerous stuff. Words fail me. I'll await Jeffbear's dissertation on the caps game later :p it may take a week or never.

The NHL officiating needs a major overhaul. I'd fire everyone from the top down and start clean. I'd send home every ref from about half of these 1st round series and tell them not to come back.

I waited until words no longer failed me and managed to keep it to a couple of paragraphs. And only a couple of PG13 words, too.

Officiating in the NHL has moved past being a joke to the point where it's actually detrimental to even the possibility of player safety. Could the players themselves chill the eff out and play something resembling a clean, honest game? Yes. Yes they could. But these are over grown children playing for what they perceive are the biggest of stakes and that's NEVER going to happen. That means the the adults have to actually make the game better and safer, but instead they only make it worse because this league is run by morons.

Pens are done. Who could have foreseen the Lightning and Pens rolling over?

Pens, yes. Apologies to several regulars with Pens leanings, but their tank has looked empty for most of the year. They need a roster re-charge. Lightning, not so much. I'm not that surprised to see the best regular season team get knocked around in the playoffs, but I'm very surprised to see that dysfunctional collection of goobers in Columbus do it. Still ... early days and neither team is actually dead yet, only mostly dead.

Kadri’s heading will be held on Monday. Game 3 is in Toronto tomorrow night but it’s academic, the only question is if he’ll be back in time to watch from the press box.

The Lighning didn't lose three games in a row until January, and IIRC that may have only happened that one time. They went through a stretch much like the Canes where they didn't lose back to back games, never mind three straight. If it were just the Blue jackets winning a couple of games against the juggernaut that is this year's Presidents Trophy winners, it wouldn't surprising, but blowing a lead like that at home and then getting blown out is...

...and it's a final. 3-1 BJs, three straight losses for the Lightning.

It's amazing how many teams in the east's first round (I am too old to stay up and watch the west) that are winless in the first round-- Tampa, Pittsburgh and the Hurricanes. I never expected the Islanders and Columbus to be so dominant. CLB scratched their way in and Pittsburgh is well, Pittsburgh. I had hoped for a split by the Canes, but we'll see if home ice is an advantage tomorrow.

FWIW, the series out West aren't yielding runaways. All four either sit 1-1 or 2-1 through Sunday night. Given the parity out West that's not really a shock. Calgary was probably the only contender to not have a dismal month or so, and their wildcards are both capable if flawed. The West was weaker overall than the East this season, but more even through the top 12 or so teams. That said, nobody in that half of the bracket is sad to see the likely demise of Pittsburgh and Tampa either.

Yeah, the Pens have looked listless and uninterested most of this year. The curse of JR finally caught up to Pittsburgh. He did a fantastic job building Pittsburgh for the back to back Cup wins, and has now done an equally good job at destroying the roster with his riverboat gambler approach. All the team speed he added to win the Cups has now been replaced by guys with really slow feet and overall lack of team speed. The Islanders are whipping the Pens in pretty much every facet of the game. Surprisingly, the Isles no-name roster is actually the better team and deserving of the series win. They are going to be a tough out for either Washington or Carolina.
