2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

I hear the FB practice facility has no AC? I guess the donors did want to chip in the extra for AC.

Almost as funny as the Syracuse Carrier dome (named for the AC company) having no AC but of course they don't have our heat/humidity.

Doesn't really need it, from what I hear. The side doors roll up and there's a rather hefty forced air system.

Been following this complex from the time it was first concepted and as it worked its way through the plans approval process. It even had to find a back-door access initially as Morrisville was dragging its feet over extension of McCrimmon Parkway for the complex's main access. Nice to see it fully open with all components operational.

Here's a link to their website. Poke around for a feel as to how nice these facilities are. Real boost to the area's growing sports scene.

And, yes, doesn't hurt when recruiting free agents to have a nice practice facility conveniently located. Note that Raleigh Orthopaedic even has a rehabilitation workout facility there.

I know I can't wait to have our beer league move there.... My team has its origins as the original "House team" of RecZone/RCI so we've been there for it all.
My Wake Forest-based beer league team actually has about a half dozen players who live in Cary, Apex, Morrisville or Holly Springs and for most of the balance of our roster who--like me--lives in North Raleigh, this new facility is about the same distance from our homes as is the Factory in Wake Forest, so we are already talking about whether we want to switch leagues to play in the new facility. Since Polar will manage the facility (as they already do with the Factory Ice House, Cary Ice House, Garner Ice House, IcePlex and RCI), we're just waiting to see what night they plan on playing Lower C league games in Morrisville.

The best part for me is that the new facility is less than a mile from my office (I've already walked there a few times to assess contruction progress!), so lunch-time pick-up hockey will be come a reality for me!

Keep me updated Kurtzie if you see any lunch-time pick-up hockey over there once things get up and running. That's the type of place I think I would really enjoy getting some daytime exercise in over the gym!

Bishop and Gibbons were sent down after the game. Necas is close to returning but they’re going to need another forward on the Canada trip. There is no practice on Sunday, just a family event,

Right-shot Necas insurance?

Good opportunity and valuable experience for Gauthier. Road trip!

I think he’s replacing Gibbons on the 4th line. With Haula out, they still need another center though and it would be prudent to carry an extra forward. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see Bishop recalled tomorrow.

I don't think they will recall anyone else. Martinook can be the 4th line center (no I don't like that so hopefully I'm wrong).

Which means 12 forwards on the trip, unless Haula miraculously recovers. Not a good plan, Don.

Fwiw, I only ever noticed Bishop in a bad way.
I thought he was really, really good in his first game and then sort of flailed around afterwards. He's got the right energy, but the kid isn't a vet and needs some time to settle in rather than the couple games here and there that he's gotten so far.

I think that's the plan ... and I don't like it either. I know Gauthier has earned the callup, but the practical need for a center overrides that for me. Unless they're finally going to let Necas play center ... which he apparently wants very badly.

He won’t be 4C unless they’re going to give him a few games to get his feet back under him. But a 3rd line of Dzingel-Necas-Gauthier would be intriguing. And then a proper 4th line of McGinn-Wallmark-Martinook, where we were before Martinook was injured, can be let loose to wreak havoc.

I actually like what Luostarinen brings to the table because he seems decent at the face off dot and certainly did not look out of place centering a fourth line. His offense will come around with time, but I prefer him over Bishop as the fourth center until Huala returns. Martinook is ok at center in a pinch, but he certainly has not had the same energy and impact this season compared to last because of his injuries.

Agreed ... and I'd like to see a couple of games with Necas centering Dzingle and Gauthier. We threw Necas out to wing awfully quickly and from what I've seen in his game, his playmaking skills would probably be more impactful if he had free run at center. The issue would be defense, but the kid is learning that side of game really quickly.

RBA is hopeful Necas can go tomorrow. Haula isn’t on the trip, so if Necas can’t go, they have to call someone up very early in the morning or go with 11F/7D. There are flights that get into Edmonton at either 12:30 or 2:15 but they all leave Charlotte before 8 am.
