2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Julien Gauthier was assigned to Charlotte today. Congrats on your first point, kid. Back to the AHL for you.

Unless of course, it’s a paper transaction and he never went back to Charlotte...
I mean ... Huala didn't go on the trip, right? So, let's hope this was a phantom roster move.

I can see the latter possibility being cleaned up in the next CBA. Interested in other views.

I just looked at the standings. Consider me very pleased. 3rd in competitve the Metro, 4th in the conference and 7th in the league. I remain concerned that we really haven't hit the bulk of our schedule and wish we had played better against NJD, Philly and NYR, but the ability to roll 4 lines, a solid d-corp and competent goaltending is very nice. I want to see us against COL and WIN, two teams in the west above us in the standings. This team feels like the real deal.

The Canes are practicing in Banff today. Haula joined them, I guess for the team building they did yesterday but he also practiced today. RBA said he’s still day to day. Michael Smith said we could still see a recall today to join them in Winnipeg later.

I think paper transactions are horsecrap. Pretty sure that qualifies as a view.

More interested in exactly who would be pushing for it. I can see reasons for any given party for being either for or against fixing it. E.g., are players on two-ways compensated on a per-game basis when they're up in the NHL, or day by day? I imagine it's the latter (no other reason to have the paper transaction), in which case the players should be for getting rid of it - except it also makes it more feasible for teams to carry extra players for more time. I don't feel like doing the math, I'd probably get it wrong anyway.

The Canes success on the ice last year was very profitable for the Centennial Authority too. Under the terms of the lease, Gale Force Holdings had to write a check for $781k. Additional rent is due if gross arena revenue exceeds $60 million and Gale Force reported revenue over $86 million, helped not only by increased Canes attendance but a packed concert schedule that included an all-time arena attendance recorded of 20,052 for Metallica. Expect the $60 million threshold to be a point of contention in the lease extension negotiations.
