2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

they are still paying the yearly rent. This extra amount is like a tax on earnings so they are paying it as agreed in 1999. I expect the CA will ask for a different number than $60 mil and so will the Canes. Like most contracts both sides will likely compromise.

I mean, that's why leases have expiration dates. There's no way to set thresholds that will be relevant for more than a decade or so.

Plus, keep in mind that we've got a new ownership group with a different business plan for managing the arena. Karmanos was fine with a $60 million fee cap because he wasn't aggressively scheduling entertainment in the building. He saw that as a minor secondary revenue source. Dundon is wringing every dime out of the building he can, and has the thing booked like never before. It's a new world and that new world needs a new set of terms.

If nothing else the $60 mil number should go up for inflation. How much more do Canes tickets cost now vs 1999? at least 50% more I assume

I'm a bit surprised that the old lease deal didn't have an automatic inflation clause based on some national economic indicator.

Jordan and Eric Staal had a short chat. It looks like it was taped when the Wild were here.

The Canes name Alyssa Gagliardi to the newly created position of Girls and Women’s Amateur Hockey Specialist. It a a long overdue position and highlights the tremendous growth of girls and women’s hockey in the area.

8 different Wild players and 4 Coyotes score goals in an 8-5 scorcher in the desert. I think it's Taylor Hall's first point as a Coyote.

The Bruins drop another game in a SO at home which brings their record to 12-1-7 at the Garden this season.

Six of the ten games tonight went into overtime. The Canes managed to prevent that. ;)

Gibbons was re-assigned to Charlotte. And hopefully it’s the last time we see him with the Canes. He only played 1 shift after taking the penalty that led to the Avs goal. Either Haula is ready to come back or someone else will be here tomorrow. The 12th forward can’t take penalties like that in a tied game.

I noted in the game thread how awful I thought he's been. The stats back it up too. I saw a blurb from Evolving Wild online and Gibbons is in the bottom 20 for expected goals against and goals above replacement. In his case, goals below replacement. The kids that have rotated up have been better, but not a ton better. Mixing Huala back in and sliding one of the guys in the top 9 down should even things up a bit. Ginner and Marty have been playing great lately, so hopefully giving them somebody who can keep up will spread the load out that little bit more.

a twitter person says the Canes schedule is the hardest in the league starting Jan 1 which might be good since they were losing to bad teams.

If the Canes get an outdoor game next season, it could be announced next week after the Jan 1st game.
I understand that a Stadium Series game has been approved in concept and that the league is working on an opponent. Speculation runs towards the Capitals.
