Yeah ... he also keeps projecting the Islanders to dip in the standings and it's STILL not happening. I'm starting to suspect it never will. They're just going to keep flipping double birds at all of the projection sites until they finally crash in the playoffs again.

If they didn’t have Trotz behind the bench, I’d believe it. But the way they defend? Probably not.

For the Canes to finish 3rd in the ATLANTIC would really be something. Or has there been a mid-season shuffle or something?

Yes, the Canes were traded to the Atlantic for the Panthers and team to be named later.

Jared Clinton of The Hockey News supports the idea of the Canes hosting a future Winter Classic...

Now that Dad is back, it’s time to focus on the other pressing issue...defense. Waddell was on with Heckle and Jeckyll last night and said he wants to strengthen it. IMO, the problem is finding a partner for Pesce. Edmundson was there for a while but Forslund said the team views him more as a #5. Gardiner has been paired with Pesce lately and, last night’s performance notwithstanding, has been...let’s say inconsistent. TVR is a shell of what he was last season; I don’t know if it’s lingering physical issues from the shoulder injury or if it’s in his head. And Fleury is Fleury

In The Athletic today, Craig Custance lists the top 27 players who could move at the deadline. Not surprisingly, Gardiner is in the list. There are a few other dmen on the list; Alec Martinez, Brenden Dillon, Sami Vatanen. Martinez has 1 year left at $4 million, Dillon, Vatanen, Andy Greene are UFAs after the season. The other option is to trade Gardiner for prospects if the brain trust thinks Jake Bean is ready. Shedding Gardiner’s salary isn’t the worst thing in the world. Hamilton can sign an extension over the summer, decisions have to be made on Haula and Edmundson who are both UFAs, Foegele and Wallmark are RFAs. And Svech will cash in next summer. Right now, Marleau and probably TVR and Fleury come off the cap next year unless the other UFAs walk.

Doesn’t seem likely that they would be comfortable swapping Bean in for Gardiner without a call up first to see how he does at this level.

I also think Williams addition will have a calming influence on the team which I think they need.

Agree and I think it might be good for Svetch to have some "elderly statesman" prodding.

Shall we mansplain it to you again?

Sure why not?

And please don't tell me "no other NHL team has done it" that's a very dumb reason not to do something. Do other teams fans tailgate? It's just a marketing idea like Star Wars night, free towels, free bobbleheads, free hats, and so on

NBA , NFL, and MLB teams have done it. Dodgers, Titans etc.

I'm fine with it as well. Mostly because I love those green Whaler jerseys; one of the best in all of sports.

Are we really going to have this debate again?

Some people love it, some people hate it and most are in the middle. This is one thing that debating is not going to change many people's minds.

And it will continue as long as the team can sell more jerseys. At least this year, we won’t have to deal with Jack Edwards bleating about Pie McKenzie again.

Williams is practicing today, working as the 13th forward, taking shifts with each line.
