2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Meh ... everybody is running 30 days or more right now. And it's more on the credit card companies' end than the vendors from what they've been telling me about Disney refunds.

From the sounds of the Canes STM plan, they're reducing the amount of each remaining installment of the 20-21 payment plan based on the balance created by the 8 cancelled games instead of just covering the scheduled June and (most of) July payments with the balance, so in effect they're keeping a portion of our "refunded" money through February 2021, so... 30 days, meh.

Waiting 30 days for a refund from one of the concerts I had tickets for is nothing compared to the two other concerts I also had tickets for, as neither of those have been rescheduled yet, so requesting refunds is not an option yet. Ticketmaster has been sitting on over $1,500 of my money--some of it laid out as far back as last September--for these shows.

Like many places Visa likely has their system run out of Bangalore, India where the guys make 80% less than US based staff. But if you visit there don't drink the water. And the power does not always work.

I'm in the same boat for 3 concerts and close to that same amount of money. I have vouchers on 3 different airlines as well for flights we cancelled. Biggest one is the cruise we were supposed to go on in a couple of weeks. At least that is cancelled and we will get that money back, but in 45 days.

I have airline voucher too, from Delta. They never cancelled my flight to New York, only changed it 4 times. The last change was interesting. I was scheduled to leave LaGuardia at 11:00 am and connect in Atlanta for my flight to Raleigh at 8:30 am. I wasn’t aware that Delta was in the time travel business. Other airlines gave refunds, but not Delta.

DPAC has managed to move the shows scheduled for March - June to next season, except for The Color Purple. So they’re holding my 2019-20 money while also collecting for the 2020-21 season. Between adding Wicked and Hamilton to my subscription and the postponed shows from this season, I’m going to spend almost as much time at DPAC as I will at PNC.

Don't even start on flights...I have to cancel about 15 of 'em--most for business, but one for personal--when we went into lockdown. I have credits with Delta, American, United and Spirit totalling about $8,000!

One of these things is not like the other...

As Alabama-Huntsville announces they’re disbanding their hockey program, Long Island University is adding men’s hockey. LIU expects to start in the 2020-21 season. No word on which conference they’ll join, but it makes sense that t’s either ECAC Hockey or Atlantic Hockey. LIU has a women’s team that completed their first season in D1 this year, winning the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance tournament.

Yep...that one thing is the round-trip I bought on Spirit for a personal trip to New Orleans, as none of my preferred carriers flew direct there from RDU. Alas, no Jazzfest this year. :(

I would be surprised if ECAC hockey--which hasn't had a change in its men's team members since Quinnipiac replaced Vermont 15 years ago and has been remarkably stable since "the great split" that led to the formation of Hockey East in the early 80s--would be interested in picking up a new program. If they did, they would probably want the women's program, too, since all 12 members have men's and women's team in the conference. It is the only Division I program that boast that and it's been that way since 2006.

I agree, I think both men’s and women’s teams would have to join ECAC Hockey. But if I’m LIU, that’s where I’d want to be. There has to be less travel than Atlantic Hockey. Besides the Air Force Academy, the 2 Pennsylvania schools are in Pittsburgh and Erie, long bus rides from Brooklyn. It’s also probably to their benefit that the men and women are in the same conference.

I've got an Australian client who is currently sitting on $25,000 AUS worth of airline vouchers. He makes props for small aircraft and flies all over the Pacific Basin for business. We're living in weird, weird days.
