2019 Offseason Thread

Just gonna post this here so we don't forget.

Have to add a few compensation picks to the draft board once everything is finalized.

We forgot to add the 2019 picks last year so doing 2019 & 2020 in this draft.

Yeah, sharing might make sense, although if you both want to continue after with your own teams, we may need a divorce lawyer to split your assets :p

If we were going to add one owner, then presumably they would pick the team they want, and we should probably give them a much heavier choice in the dispersal draft of the other team, assuming that's how we handle it. Combining both teams fully together might be a little strong, but I don't mind giving some boosts.

Also, we do have confirmation that everyone else is back? Don't want to get too deep and then find one or two others also wanting to step back.

Aaaah damn it..!

Maybe if I take a team as is.

I’m currently finishing some “business” in Turkey and I am preparing for a 2 months trip in India.

Travels start on February 11th with a stop in Dubai for a couple days so I would have to get the team situation sorted out before that date.

I know the rookie draft starts on March 1st and I could find a way to manage that, but I really don’t want to have to deal with a 2 teams draft between Feb 11th and March 1st.
And I’m not ready to make one right now either.

I guess I could go for Stubby’s team and get a good team to start my career.

Or if you guys find a legit baseball manager that wants to invest himself in this league for a long time, then he could take Stubby’s team instead because I don’t know if I’ll enjoy a baseball league or not.

And maybe I could take over Bear’s team at a smaller entrance fee for this year.

Just an idea like that.
The team is trash and unattractive to new managers.
If you contract it the league lose $40.
If I take it this year and pay like $10 for example, then you guys lose $30 instead but the team stays in the league and gets one year closer to being less trash.

Best case scenario I enjoy the baseball league and keep the team next year.
If I don’t, the team is slightly more attractive to a new owner as it would have all the 2024 picks added.
I would not trade any future picks on the team.

Worst case you are in the same boat next year and ponder if you contract it or not.

Still those options are not as good as 2 new managers with a 2 teams draft so if you guys can go that way you should definitively do that.

We could also combine both rosters plus all unprotected players into one list, and have a 2-team draft for the new managers before the regular draft.

If we don't have people specifically wanting to join to take over a certain team, I do think this format is the best solution to go with. As it gives new owners instant ownership of their new squads (versus it being the remains of the work someone else did).....and if recent history is any indicator many of our best current managers (Penguins, Nuke, Iceman, etc) are guys who (if memory serves) took part in this kind of team draft when they started, and are all now foundational members of this league that I expect will be around for as long as the league is.

It's also just a damn fun exercise for new managers. (And to watch unfold, as a league member)

/2 cents.

I'd also sign off on all the above. 👍

Yeah, the 2-team (plus anyone else who throws their team into the pool) dispersal is the best way to go if we can get managers, means you don't have one person betting the "better" team.

If we only have one manager take over, then I say they just take one team, and the other gets folded into a quick dispersal draft (maybe letting the new manager have like every 4th or 5th pick in a dispersal draft too to help them out).

I sent out an email last night, and I have two guys who are interested in taking a look at the league and the team (maybe TEAMS now?), if you guys are still in need of replacements.

Deckie, how do you share access so they can see the league settings and team rosters? If you want to contact them or share a link, my guys are:

Jeremy: ([email protected]) I've been playing baseball and football with him for the past 6 or 7 years. Very reliable, on top of things, is the commissioner in a couple of pools I'm in.

Kevin: ([email protected]) Met him a couple years ago. He's a big sports fan, and I've played in a couple of football pools he's commissioner of as well. Haven't tried baseball with him, but I know he plays and follows the sport.

I didn't mention the dispersal draft idea to either of them because I just assumed only one team was available. Feel free to bring it up if you like.

Got a 3rd guy who's interested in something longterm like the opening(s) here. He also is curious to see the league and the roster(s) available.

Jason: ([email protected]) He's been in the same baseball pool as Jeremy and I for the past 6 or 7 years. Always been active, good with trading and negotiating in a friendly way.

I know that you guys might have some options that more of you know, which is cool if that works out instead. Kevin is pretty gung ho and sounds like he'd like a team regardless of its talent. Jeremy and Jason are both interested too, but curious to see what they'd be getting into.

If you can pass along access to the league/rosters, that would help. Or if you have another solution lined up, that's no problem. Just let me know and I'll tell these guys we worked it out already.

Hey if Axl or Nova can’t get to this afternoon, I’ll send out invites when I get home tonight from work, hopefully earlier.

I guess we just need to confirm that Thunder is in for sure. That would leave one additional opening. Iceman, would you say 1 of those guys is most interested in taking over the other team? I can send out the invite, just looking to confirm who we should send it to.

I definitely think we need to do a draft for the two teams together if we're able to find two managers. Can't stick one guy with an inferior team. Thunder would be a great addition but might be better to find a couple a guys that would be available for a longer drafting process as Thunder has a full schedule for the next few months it seems.

I think all 3 are good options. Kevin is probably MOST interested...sounded like he wanted a team regardless of the shape it was in. I've known him as a hardcore, very active and enthusiastic football guy. I know he plays baseball, but I only met him a couple years ago, so never been in a baseball pool with him. I'd assume good things, but just an assumption.

Jeremy, I've played with many years in football, baseball, and hockey. No questions about his activity level or longterm commitment. Jason's been in that same baseball pool during those years, and he's always been a good, friendly, active owner too. Both of them expressed interest but might have wanted to gauge the feasibility of turning their team into a contender anytime in the near future. Reasonable, but not sure what their judgement calls will be on it after seeing the situation and considering a takeover/dispersal draft.

I took a look at the Bears roster again yesterday and while it certainly isn't good, it's not a total dumpster fire either. There are some good pieces. And Stubby's team is reasonably solid.

If we do a 2-team dispersal draft where they can select from those 2 rosters, anyone on the rest of the league's unprotected lists, and probably FA's in Fantrax as well (perhaps give them an extra draft pick or two as well), they should be able to both at least build the core of a decent roster.

Iceman, we'll deal with this situation first, but you can also let those guys know about the roto dynasty league I proposed if they're interested (hopefully you'll reconsider and join as well).

Yeah I agree...not a great team, but not a dumpster fire in my opinion either. Both teams definitely have multiple guys I would want. Just have to let them make that decision. Hopefully they see the invites soon and take a look. Jeremy said he hadn't gotten anything yet a couple hours ago. Told him to check junkmail just in case.

If your roto dynasty league gets going, I'll consider it again and mention it to them too. I have 3 baseball pools in the summer and can usually handle more, but I've got a baby coming in April so I'm not sure how my free time will hold up. LOL

Looks like Kevin has accepted the invite. The other two haven't. As you said, might be in junkmail. I copy pasta the links so as long as the address is correct, they should get the invite.
